The Omnitool is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is a handheld multi-tool device used by Rotor the Walrus.

Description

Appearance

The Omnitool is shaped very much like a horseshoe and has a handle between the ends. It possesses instruments on the surface and on the front point it has a rectangle with two short antennas on the side which have a red and green point respectively.

Abilities

Supposedly, the Omnitool can used for repairing machinery. As seen so far, it can be used to cut through metal similarly to a blow torch.[1] It is also seemingly waterproof.[2]

History

During the Shattered World Crisis, when the Knothole Freedom Fighters came to the aid of Station Square, Rotor used the Omnitool to repair the elevator to Twinkle Park.[2] Later, when attempting to free Charles and Professor Pickle from the Bullet Train, Rotor tried repeatedly to open the hatches on the train with the Omnitool, but had limited success due to the train's armor.[1]

Trivia

  • The word "Omni" is the Latin word for "all" or "every", referring to the multiple functions the Omnitool has.
  • Though the Omnitool first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog #257, it was not named until Sonic the Hedgehog #258.
  • The name Omnitool is derived from the term Multi-tool which is a versatile hand tool that combines several individual functions in a single unit.
