The Orbinaut is a character that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. It is a sea urchin-based Badnik variant created by Dr. Ivo Robotnik and is among the first generation of Badniks ever produced.

Appearance

Based on Sea Urchins, the Orbinauts have a spherical body with wide black eyes and four spiked balls orbiting their body (some models had their spiked balls connected to their body though).[1] They coloration varies, though they are often green or grey.

History

In the early days of Dr. Robotnik, some Orbinauts, along with the Badnik army, tried to stop Sonic the Hedgehog from reaching the Neutrino Accelerator, but were destroyed in a flash by the hedgehog.[2]

While some Orbinauts would work at Robotnik's bases, those who failed to stop Sonic were melted down to be repurposed.[3] More Orbinauts would aid the Marxio Brothers with their schemes, only to be wiped out by Knuckles.[4][5] Others would also ravage the Casino Night Zone until Tails and his allies caught them in a trap that destroyed them.[1]

Powers and abilities

The Orbinauts are capable of levitation, though their main abilities lie in their spiked balls which they can hold in orbit around them. They act both as weapons and a shield.
