Plot[]

Scratch and Grounder are seen bombarding the Hill Top Village with Sneeze Bombs. However, Sonic and Tails stop them. The heroes later cross paths with an old hero named Captain Rescue, only to come to regret it. He insists on helping the two heroes out in their adventures, but he ultimately just makes things worse. At Dr. Ivo Robotnik's fortress, the doctor is angry with Scratch and Grounder and tells them that they are worthless. He later reveals to them his new Egg-O-Matic Force Field, a force field that cannot be penetrated or destroyed by any means. Later, Scratch and Grounder are again trying to destroy the Hill Top Village with Cossack-like Badniks, only to be stopped by the hedgehog. However, Robotnik has not given up, and manipulates Captain Rescue into working against Sonic. Afterwards, the doctor manages to catch Sonic in the force field. Now with nothing to stop him, Robotnik proceeds with his plan and destroys most, if not all, of Hill Top Village. Meanwhile, Tails goes to Captain Rescue's trailer, inspiring a depressed Captain Rescue to be the hero he once was, and Rescue decides to use the Rescue Rocket to go to Hill Top Village and save Sonic. They put the hedgehog inside the force field in the rocket and send him to space. As there is thin air pressure in space, the force field becomes weaker until eventually exploding, freeing Sonic. He later lands in safe earth and defeats Robotnik.

Sonic Says[]

Tails and Captain Rescue are lost. Rescue tells him that they should head north, though an old bear appears and tells them that moss grows heaviest in north. Captain Rescue tells Tails that they should trust old people as they often know what is the right direction to take in life.

Trivia[]

  • This episode has a different title card than the other episodes (like "Robotnik's Rival").
  • This is the only episode where Sonic does not appear in the Sonic Says segment.
  • The design of the sun in this episode's title card looks identical to the sun on the logo of British Petroleum (BP).
  • The second Japanese dub of this episode starts with Sonic flying down with the umbrella, for unknown reasons. It is known, however, that dialogue for the first few minutes was recorded.
  • The premise of this episode is similar to that of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987) episode, "Superhero For a Day". Both episodes feature a former Golden Age superhero (Captain Rescue, Gadget Man) coming out of retirement to try and help out the main character(s) (Sonic, the Turtles), against the main villain (Robotnik, Shredder), but only make things worse for the heroes, leading to them getting captured. The Golden Age hero then feels guilt-ridden and watches old tapes of their glory days, and then redeem themselves by rescuing the main character(s) and helping them defeat the villain.
    • Both episodes were actually written by the same person, Francis Moss.
  • This is the fourth episode where Robotnik does not say "I hate that hedgehog" at the end.
    • Ironically Captain Rescue says "I like that hedgehog" at the end.
