Park Avenue[1] (パークアベニュー Pākuabenyū?) is the twelfth stage in Sonic Forces, and the third stage in the game to be played as the Avatar.

Park Avenue is a quaint downtown area in the City that has since been besieged and destroyed by Dr. Eggman's robot armies, turning it into an all-out warzone. During the events of the game, the Resistance mounted an evacuation of the local residents when the Eggman Empire broke into the area.

Overview

Park Avenue is a deserted, Eggman Empire-besieged town area in the City set during a partially clouded sunset that adds to the overall glum mood of the stage. The area's densely-built buildings resemble those found in real-life cities like San Diego. Park Avenue itself is built in a blocky hill landscape with layered soil in different shades of brown and green grass on top of the hills that favors Green Hill. There is also a long red bridge in the background that stretches across a large portion of Park Avenue. Also depicted in the background is a costal area with a green island landscape that is connected to Park Avenue by small bridge pathways.

Park Avenue shows a scenario of complete chaos and war, with structures—buildings and houses, among others—being destroyed by hordes of Death Egg Robot sentinels that roam through the City in the background while Resistance forces shoot at them. As such, much of Park Avenue lies in ruins, with most of the local structures having suffered heavy damage and/or having been set ablaze. In addition, flaming balls of fire are falling from the sky, causing even more destruction.

Story

With the Eggman Empire having broken into Park Avenue, the Resistance prepares to mount a rescue of the civilians. However, with Sonic and Silver still recovering from their last fight with Infinite and with their other forces preoccupied across the globe, Knuckles has no choice but to send their rookie―the Avatar―to help save the civilians.

As the Avatar arrives in Park Avenue, several characters communicate with them. Amy requests the Resistance for a status update on any survivors within the city. Espio responds, saying that he is engaging enemy forces and he cannot check for civilians at the moment. A soldier responds, saying the fighting is too much for him to help out either, making Knuckles realize that the Avatar is their only hope now. During the commotion, Silver and Vector notice that the Death Egg Robot sentinels, which are attacking Park Avenue, are being mass-produced, though Knuckles assures them that the Avatar can handle it.

With the Avatar making progress on the rescue, Espio and Charmy compliment them for defeating Badniks with skill, with Vector responding with envy on how he is able to top Avatar's performance. Meanwhile, Knuckles notices that things are turning around with the Avatar on their side. Knuckles soon after receives word from their headquarters that the enemies are fleeing. Espio then congratulates everyone for their hard work while the Avatar makes their escape.

Gameplay

Park Avenue is a fast-paced stage with destruction to avoid, along with an overwhelming number of enemies and obstacles, such as spikes. There are also a number pathways in the stage to choose from, whether if the player wants to go along a higher route or a lower route.

Like other Avatar stages, Park Avenue features Wire Targets for the player to swing around on using the Wire Attack, and numerous Wisp Capsules with Wisps for fueling the Avatar's different Wispons. However, any Wisp Capsule containing Wisps that do not match any of the Wispons the player has currently obtained will be rendered intangible and transparent until the player obtains their Wisp's associated Wispon. This means, for example, that if the player does not have an Asteroid Wispon, then the capsules with Indigo Wisps will be unobtainable.

Description

The stage starts out in a 3D perspective. At the beginning, the player must run down the road ahead. This will take them through a loop and up to a higher street. Continue forward on the path ahead, and the Avatar will eventually reach a Ramp. This Ramp will take the Avatar across a gap that shows a Death Egg Robot sentinel on the left. After landing, the player must continue down the street they are on until they reach a round plaza. There, they must take out the Egg Pawns that appear. After that, proceed through the shuttle loop in front of the plaza.

Upon exiting said shuttle loop and passing a Star Post, the player enters a 2.5D section where they have to scale the rooftops of the buildings while moving forward. For the traversal of this part of this section, the stage offers numerous traveling methods via the usage of Wisps and the Avatar's Wispons. After the player passes the next Star Post, they must follow the path until some Dash Rings takes them to an area above the city. Continue forward on the path ahead, and the Avatar will reenter the city. Upon reentry, the player can either take the higher route across the rooftops, or the lower route through the sewers. Regardless, both routes will rejoin on a bridge at the end of the stage where the goal is.
