Quotation1 Parkour Like A Pro! Quotation2
Manual, Sonic Lost World (Nintendo 3DS)

Parkour is a moveset that appears in both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of Sonic Lost World. Based on the actual stunts, Parkour allows Sonic the Hedgehog to perform moves he has never demonstrated before.

Description

Parkour allows the player, who controls Sonic the Hedgehog, to run, climb, and jump on walls. When using the Spin Dash technique, though, the player cannot use the Parkour moveset.

List of Parkour Moves

Wall Climb

The most basic of the Parkour moveset, Wall Climb allows the player to run up almost all walls in Sonic Lost World. Typically, walls colored black and white cannot be climb on. To use Wall Climb, the player has to run towards the specific wall and start climbing. When the player needs to reach higher, he/she must press Snnwiidsxbuttondisco/Snnwiidsybuttondisco (Nintendo 3DS version) to use a boost. Be cautioned, though; once used, another boost cannot be used.

Wall Jump

Main article: Wall Jump

This move only occurs during a Wall Climb; when the player is nearby another wall to their left/right, the player can press WiiDSA/DSB (Nintendo 3DS version) to jump from wall to wall.

Side Step

Main article: Side Step

This move occurs only during a Wall Climb; when the player needs to reach to the left/right of the same wall he/she are climbing, the player can use the analog stick and/or Controlpadds to move left or right, depending on what control the player uses.

Wall Run

Main article: Wall Run

The player can typically run perpendicular on walls for a limited time. The player can either jump to a wall during a Wall Climb or wherever or the player can use a treadmill to boost their way into a Wall Run. If the player needs more boost to get through, he/she must press Snnwiidsxbuttondisco/Snnwiidsybuttondisco (Nintendo 3DS version) to go faster. There is no limit to how many times the player can boost during a Wall Run.

Trivia

  • In real life, parkour, also known as "free-running", is a sport which involved people performing tricks, usually in dangerous situations, (for example, performing a front-flip from one roof to the roof of a lower building, followed by a roll) all to keep one's speed and momentum. Examples can be seen here.
  • When using the Parkour move to climb walls too much at one part, Sonic is shown to be tired via sweat coming out from him. This is the first time Sonic has appeared to be tired from the game series, excluding when Sonic was in his Werehog form on Sonic Unleashed. The sweat is present only on the Nintendo 3DS version.
  • Many parkour moves have actually been seen in other Sonic games.
    • Running up and across walls has technically always been present since Sonic the Hedgehog.
    • Jumping across walls has been present since Sonic Adventure.
    • Grabbing ledges first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2.
    • Despite its non-official name, the parkour system made some small appearances in Shadow the Hedgehog, where Shadow could briefly walk along walls by jumping onto them.
  • According to an interview with Takashi Iizuka, he states that the parkour system might possibly not be used in future Sonic games due to Sonic Lost World being designed for the parkour system.[1]
