STC106-Perfection

Sonic arriving in Perfection, from Sonic the Comic #106. B & W art by Andy Pritchett and colour by John M Burns.

Perfection is a location that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. It is a solid light hologram Zone created by Citizen One. It is a peaceful and idyllic Zone, but independent thought is forbidden and all residents are referred to by number instead of by name, and are forced to conform to the rules of the Zone by brainwashing. It is surrounded by a forcefield.

Rules

Residents of Perfection are brainwashed and forced to conform to the strict rules laid down by Citizen One. Some of the Zone's rules are as follows:

  • Thinking is forbidden.[1]
  • Names are forbidden, and citizens are referred to by number, e.g. Citizen Two.[2]
  • All citizens must wear the uniform of the Zone: a yellow blazer and black T-shirt.[2]
  • Escape (leaving Perfection) is forbidden.[1]
  • Nobody may know the identity of Citizen One.[1]
  • All citizens must follow a strict routine that begins at six o'clock every morning, and includes watching the grass grow and counting clouds.[1]

History

Citizen One created Perfection so that it could get residents and would no longer be lonely. It kidnapped several Mobians, whom it then brainwashed into becoming Citizens Two to Six.[1] When Sonic came to investigate the missing Mobians, Citizen One kidnapped him too. Sonic was immediately horrified by the resident's conformity and tried to escape, only to be attacked first by a marble statue and then by a bouncing pink balloon that the residents called the "Guardian". However, when Sonic attacked the Guardian, it burst and trapped him in a pink adhesive substance, and he was knocked out before he could escape. Citizen One then tried to brainwash Sonic into becoming Citizen Seven,[2] but Sonic resisted the brainwashing. He attempted to escape, attacking the Zone's force field with his new Blast Attack, which destabilised the Zone's solid light hologram (effectively destroying the Zone) and exposed Citizen One as a computer program.[1]

Trivia

  • Perfection is based on the Village from the 1960s TV series The Prisoner, a similar secret location where everyone is referred to by number not by name. The Guardian is also based on Rover from the same TV series.
