The Phantom Rider[1] is a transformation that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a modified state of the Heavy Rider which she assumed in the Titanic Monarch Zone twice. She is also a member of the Phantom Heavies. The Phantom Rider is usually accompanied by her trusty steed, Jimmy, who has been modified into a motorbike.

Appearance

The Phantom Rider has the exact same appearance as her normal form, though Jimmy is drastically changed into a motorcycle hybrid.

History

Sonic Mania

In Sonic Mania, during their climactic fight with the Phantom Egg, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles got transported to a different room where they fought the Heavy Rider-turned-Phantom Rider. Their fight was a brief one though, as Sonic and co. were returned to their fight with the Phantom Egg before the Phantom Rider managed to defeat them.

Sonic Mania Plus

In Sonic Mania Plus it was revealed that the Phantom Rider got destroyed after her battle in the Titanic Monarch Zone, her remains ending up on Angel Island along with the other broken-down Phantom Heavies (except for the Heavy Magician). However, the Phantom Rider got revived as the Heavy Rider after the Phantom King got his hands on the Phantom Ruby and used it to revive himself and the broken-down Hard Boiled Heavies.

The Heavy Rider soon after became the Phantom Rider again. When Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Mighty and Ray fought the Phantom Egg, the group of heroes got transported to a different room where they faced the Phantom Rider. Like before however, the Phantom Rider missed the chance to eliminate Sonic and co. when they got pulled back into the fight with the Phantom Egg.

Powers and abilities

The Phantom Rider is capable of riding Jimmy, a steed-turned-motorbike that she possesses, and with great skill no less.

The Phantom Rider appears during the boss battle with the Phantom Egg in Titanic Monarch Zone Act 2.

The Phantom Rider segment is the final section the player will be transported to. There will be two roads in this section: one that the player will auto run on and another that the Phantom Rider will drive along on a modified Jimmy. The two roads will eventually separate, with the road Phantom Rider on the top road and the player on the bottom road. The bottom road will be filled with spikes that the player must avoid. This segment continues until the Phantom Rider hits a wall.
