The Power-absorbant Insoles are objects that appear in the Sonic Boom television series. Created by Dr. Eggman, they were used in one of Eggman's schemes to turn Sonic the Hedgehog's speed against him.

Description

The Power-absorbant Insoles are built into an orange pair of shoes, fitted with red lights, grey soles, turquise patterns and tall white rims.

When Sonic the Hedgehog runs with them, the Power-absorbant Insoles can conduct the power he generates remotely to the Giant Robot as an external power source; the faster Sonic goes, the more powerful the robot becomes. Additionally, the shoes can store the power Sonic generates like a battery, thereby preventing the Giant Robot from powering down should Sonic stop running. As a safety measure, the shoes cannot be taken off, though, as implied by Sonic, it is only very difficult to do.[1]

History

TV series

Season one

In an attempt to beat Team Sonic, Dr. Eggman developed the Power-absorbant Insoles to turn Sonic's speed into a power source for his Giant Robot. After making Sonic believe he was creating noise when running (which Eggman had faked), Eggman got him to wear a pair of shoes with the Power-absorbant Insoles under the pretense that they would cover the sound. Soon after, Eggman attacked with Giant Robot which grew stronger the more Sonic ran with the shoes in battle. Unable to neutralize the shoes, Sonic used them to his advantage by running around increasing faster until Giant Robot overloaded with power.[1]

Trivia

  • The shoes turning Sonic's strength into his weakness as well as being locked onto his feet are similar functions to the Slow-Down Boots in Sonic Labyrinth. While these shoes did not slow Sonic down, they are stuck to his feet and serve a purpose in favour for Dr. Eggman.
  • Dr. Eggman would have explained how he caused the deafening sound to play every time Sonic ran, but Amy destroyed his presentation before he could explain.
