The Red Rock (レッドロック,Reddo rokku?) is a recurring Board type Extreme Gear that appears in the Sonic Riders series. It is Knuckles the Echidna's character-exclusive Extreme Gear, meaning only he can use it, and his default Extreme Gear. It is one of the first Extreme Gears available in every game in the Sonic Riders series.
Knuckles doesn't have a lot of patience, especially when it comes to obstacles in his path. On his Red Rock, created by Robotnik, Inc. for Power Type characters, he blazes past competitors and knocks obstructions (including cars) far and wide.
The Red Rock's design in Sonic Riders, is that of a long and sleek board with a thin silver metal footing plate running down the middle and with a yellow plate with black diagonal stripes, on each side of it.
Abilities and traits
As a Board-type Extreme Gear in Sonic Riders, the Red Rock is well-balanced in its attributes with average statistics, an average rate of fuel-consumption and is suited for general riding.
Like most other character exclusive Extreme Gears, the Red Rock does not possess any unique abilities of its own. The Red Rock is built to mach Knuckles' powerful fighting style, possessing above average endurance and power in general, but lacks in control.
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity
Tails' bullet-shaped redesign for Knuckles' gear mirrors its owner's own explosive power.
The Red Rock reappeared later in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. According to its profile, the Red Rock was in this game rebuilt from the ground up by Tails, and has the properties of transforming metal.
In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, the Red Rock received a noticable updated in design. In this game, it is given an entirely new shape, almost resembling a bone and made much more sturdy in appearance. Most of the Red Rock is colored red, while a section of the rear, the top surface and the corners of the front and rear are colored white. It also has two grey circular foot panels on the top surface, a green highlight running across the side and a yellow underside.

The Red Rock made another appearance in Sonic Free Riders. According to its profile, Tails rebuilt the Red Rock with more sturdier materials than any earlier versions of the Red Rock to match Knuckles' tough racing style.
In Sonic Free Riders, the Red Rock received a new redesign. In this game, the Red Rock returned to having more board-like dimensions as it had in Sonic Riders, though it is not as long or thin. It is mainly colored red, with slightly darker red accents on the edges, with sections of white accents on the rear, front and sides. On its top surface, it also has two white circles, with darker red segments and yellow curves adorning the surface.

As a Board type Extreme Gear in Sonic Free Riders, the Red Rock is, like in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, well-balanced in its attributes with average stats and is suited for general riding.
Like in the previous titles, the Red Rock possesses no unique abilities of its own, but it can be equipped with up to two Gear Parts.
The Red Rock's first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog #164's second story, "Sonic Riders - Part Two", which served as a comic adaption of Sonic Riders. After Sonic returned to Freedom HQ, beaten and bruised by the Babylon Rogues, the hedgehog was at a loss of how to stop this group, who had promised to come to attack Knothole the next day. Tails, however, presented a solution to this problem, by giving themselves their own Extreme Gear, the Red Rock included, so they could face the Rogues on even grounds. Though Tails pointed out that the boards were prototypes, they were all functional.
The next day, Knuckles arrived on the Red Rock outside of Knothole, along with Sonic and Tails on their own Extreme Gear, and managed to intercept the Babylon Rogues with their Extreme Gear. Knuckles then went after Storm the Albatross on the Red Rock, both of them realizing that they have nearly equal strength. Eventually though, the heroes were successful in defeating the Babylon Rogues and driving them off.
The Red Rock also appeared briefly in Sonic the Hedgehog #171, when Knuckles was seen carrying it through Freedom HQ.
