The Red Star Rings are objects that appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. They are a unique variant of Power Rings produced by a Lake of Rings, but with a Chaos Emerald's energy added to its creation.[1]

Description

While Dr. Ellidy determined that the Red Star Rings possess roughly the same qualities as a regular Power Ring, they had the potential for much greater energy.[2] This was later demonstrated effectively when Nicole the Holo-Lynx used that energy to take on a state known as Overclocked Nicole.[1]

History

The Red Star Rings were first discovered by Dr. Ellidy a few weeks after his Lake of Rings seemingly dried out.[2] Phage, a computer virus agent of Dr. Eggman, wanted Ellidy's research on them for Dr. Eggman.[3] After discovering his first Red Star Ring, Sally Acorn and Big went to get another one from the lake upon the doctor's request when they visited him.[2] Later, as Dr. Ellidy and the Freedom Fighters were attacked by Phage and her minions, Ellidy attached a Red Star Ring to Nicole's handheld form, transforming her into Overclocked Nicole and giving her the strength to defeat Phage.[1]

Trivia

  • Red Star Rings are based on the Red Star Rings from the Sonic the Hedgehog video games. They usually serve as collectable items used to unlock special bonuses.
