The Red Titan (レッド・タイタン Reddo Taitan?) is a mini-boss that appears in the nighttime Stages in the Wii/PlayStation 2 version of Sonic Unleashed. They are a variant of Dark Gaia's Minions and an empowered version of the Titan, making them the most powerful and elite warriors of Dark Gaia's lesser minions.

Appearance[]

The Red Titans look identical to the Titans, except they have red and pink skin with black shadows and cyan body markings. They resemble five-meter tall cyclops-like giants with rather bulky bodies, possessing large forearms and feet, a broad chest area and no visible neck. They possess relatively thick body armor with curved spikes on their knees, wrists, chest, and back, and have a pair of horns on their head. They also have a motif around their necks and shoulders that resembles Dark Gaia's mouth. Additionally, they have a thin tail and constantly emit purple smoke.

Overview[]

The Red Titans and the rest of Dark Gaia's Minions came into being when Dark Gaia broke apart at the beginning of Sonic Unleashed due to its premature awakening by Dr. Eggman. These fragments were then spread across the earth and became Dark Gaia's Minions, with the Red Titans amongst them. They first appear in Arid Sands Night Act IV: Altar of Oblivion.

Being an empowered version of the Titans, the Red Titans are even more deadly than the regular Titans; one strike from a Red Titan can take away roughly a quarter of Sonic the Werehog's health when it is at its highest and, if given a clear shot, they can leave Sonic dazed for a short moment. They also have more health than any other of the enemies in the game and they only flinch when hit by Sonic the Werehog's most powerful attacks, meaning the Red Titans can execute their movements almost without fail. The Red Titans also have much faster movements than the regular Titans and can perform their attacks in quicker succession as such. When combating Red Titans, it is advisable to attack them when they have their guard down and then run away when they are about to attack.

In battle, the Red Titans share the same attack patterns as the regular Titan. When fighting, they will attack the player with their clubs by either swinging them down on the player as a part of a three-hit combo or spin them around to hit everything within their radius.

Upon the reconstruction of Dark Gaia by Dr. Eggman, all of the Red Titans (along with the other types Dark Gaia's minions) were returned to the beast, who was later defeated and sealed within the planet's core.

Powers and abilities[]

The Red Titans are able to move around by emerging from black puddles on the ground. As a Dark Gaia minion, the Red Titans can possess people by latching onto the deepest, darkest part of the heart, and generate despair, negative emotions or even erratic behavior that are completely opposite to the person's personality.

Being an empowered version of the Titan, the Red Titans possess strength and speed above that of the already powerful Titans. They have immense amounts of physical strength, enough to carry a tree-sized club in one hand with ease and easily swat away even Sonic the Werehog with one arm. Due to their large size, the Red Titans also have large amounts of physical endurance, enough to be completely unfazed when hit by most of Sonic the Werehog's attacks.

The Red Titans have demonstrated some skills in fighting with clubs, though with limited proficiency, such as just hammering them down on their opponents or swinging them along the ground.

Weapons[]

Each Red Titan carries a two-meter-wide wooden club that they have carved out from trees, which they use for basic melee combat by swinging them at foes.
