Rescue the Animals! is the first Challenge Act of Seaside Hill Act 1 in the console/PC version of Sonic Generations. It is unlocked after clearing every Stage in the Dreamcast era and is playable only as Classic Sonic.
This Challenge Act takes place in the afternoon of Seaside Hill Act 1. Here, the player has to free 140 Animals from the Capsules found in the Act. Each Capsule contains fourteen Animals and can be opened by pressing the switch on top of them.
The act is full of Bladed Spinners, Electro Spinners and Egg Pawns carrying spears and guns. The Challenge Act also has platforms and spiked balls that move around in circular patterns, and spikes. The player can also find Time Bonuses around the Act to improve their time limit.
At the start of the Challenge Act, climb to the white platforms above where the first Capsule is. From there, the player has to skip across two Spinners to reach another Capsule. Further ahead is another Capsule just before a drop downward. Go down there to find more Capsules, but watch out for floating spiked balls. At the end of this section is a Fan that must be rode over a wall with a Capsule. The next two sections are filled with faster-than-normal Electro Spinners and Egg Pawns that guard the Capsules, and rolling platforms.
The subsequent section, which is reached by Cannon, is covered in spikes and holds only one Capsule at the end. Next to the Capsule there is also a Cannon that takes the player to the semi-final section. To reach the upper area of this area, which consists of several rolling platforms, where the platforms at the top carry the final Capsule, the player must Spin Dash up a slope and then scale various plaforms to the top. From the Cannon at the end of this section, the player can reach the Goal Post.
