Get through rings to avoid losing time. Pass every checkpoint to win!

— In-game description, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

Ring Race is one of the events featured in the World Tour of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

Overview[]

Ringracing

Tails going through a ring, during a Ring Race.

Ring Race is an event that the player participates in alone. No racing opponents appear in this event. In Ring Race, the player uses the air transformation for their vehicle throughout the entire track. The goal of the Ring Race is to fly through all the checkpoints, which take the form of large green rings that float in midair, along the race course within a limited amount of time. Between these checkpoints are strings of smaller blue rings (the current ring highlighted in purple) that the player is obligated to follow if they want to find the next checkpoint. The player must also pass through these smaller rings; if they are omitted, the player's timer instantly decreases by two seconds to complete this event. The player's time limit is displayed by a time counter on the top of the screen's HUD that counts down during the whole event. If this time counter goes down to zero, the event will end and the player will lose.

The player can earn extra time to complete the event by passing through checkpoints. In addition, for every few set of blue/purple rings that the player passes through (indicated by the change in the pitch of the sound effect played from passing through the ring), the player will receive a Boost item. This "counter" does not reset until the Boost is used. The Ring Race event will be completed once the player has passed through all the checkpoints.

The player can choose the level of difficulty (C for Easy, B for Medium, A for Hard, and S for Expert). The higher the level, the more stars the player will receive for their victory (from 1 for Easy to 4 for Expert).

Through each difficulty mode, from Easy to Expert, the course of rings will be far harder to go through as they are arranged in trickier patterns. Also, the starting time limit and the bonus time values earned from passing through each checkpoint are less, leaving little room for errors to complete the mission.
