Robot Ant[1] (アントン[2] lit. “Anton”?) is an enemy in the Sonic the Hedgehog series that first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog CD. They are ant-based Badnik models created by Dr. Eggman. Robot Ant is one of many variations of Badniks that can be seen moving around back and forth.

Appearance

Robot Ants are based on a terrestrial ant. They possess blue robotic armor with an upstanding ant-like upper body and two thin arms. Their heads on the other hand are large with wide eyes, two yellow antennae, and gray mandibles. They are capable of moving around thanks to a single thick yellow wheel on their bottom and two small engines with exhaust pipes on the sides.

In Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Robot Ant simply rolls back and forth along the ground at Palmtree Panic, never leaving the platform upon which it moves. It can be easily avoided and destroyed. When they are seen broken down due to age in the Bad Future or sometimes in the present, these Badniks move considerably slower and have a depressed look on their faces. They can be easily defeated by using Spin Jump or Spin Attack. Like other Badniks in the game, Robot Ant is powered with Little Planet's flower.

Sonic Lost World

In the Wii U version of Sonic Lost World, Robot Ants appear in single-file groups of three in Desert Ruins Zone 3. In this game, Antons are powered by Animals instead of flowers. If the player targets an Anton using the Homing Attack, it will grab Sonic and keep him on its back as it activates its self-destruct. The player has to use a Flying Kick to defeat an Anton properly and release its Animal.

Sonic Mania

In Sonic Mania, several Robot Ants make a cameo appearance in the trash heaps in Flying Battery Zone.

In the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions, the Robot Ants are a part of Dr. Robotnik's Badnik army, although they only made a few appearances during the comic's run. Depending on the artist, the Robot Ants' design would differ between their appearances.
