The Rocket Shoes (ロケットシューズ Roketto Shūzu?) are power-ups that first appear in Sonic Chaos and later appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble. In both titles, the player can find these power-ups inside monitors and only use them as Sonic the Hedgehog, although Tails can use an equivalent in the latter game known as the Hyper Heli-Tails (ハイスピードヘリテイル Hai-Supīdo Heri-Teiru?, lit. "High-Speed Heli-Tail").
Rocket Shoes are foot wears which are similar to Sonic's own sneakers. What makes them special is having rocket engines set behind of them. After breaking the monitor, it makes its user fly at high speed for several seconds in the air while wild background music can be heard during the event. After the ride, Rocket Shoes will disappear and the player falls down to the ground.
By moving while using the Rocket Shoes in both games can be tough, as upward rising and descent can be rather quick or turning in the opposite direction can be strenuous. Usually Tails cannot use these power-ups, so they are replaced with something else.
First appearing in Sonic Chaos, Rocket Shoes can be found from monitors at Turquoise Hill Zone, Gigalopolis Zone, Sleeping Egg Zone and Mecha Green Hill Zone. In Sonic Chaos, it is almost possible to fly through the whole one act in the air. While playing as Tails, monitors with Rocket Shoes are replaced by monitors containing ten rings.
The player also has to complete first Special Stage by using Rocket Shoes to fly to the end of Stage to gather Chaos Emerald before the time runs out. Here the time of using the Rocket Shoes is unlimited. At same time the player can collect normal size Rings and even bigger rings that gives points to the player. Rocket Shoes can also found at near end of fourth Special Stage as well.
Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble
Rocket Shoes make a second appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble, where objects can be found again from monitors at Great Turquoise Zone. In this game, Sonic has the ability to perform a mid-air flip attack by pressing either button while flying. The player also starts the third act of Atomic Destroyer Zone with Rocket Shoes until suddenly Metal Sonic starts following Sonic and hits him as the player loses Rocket Shoes and has to prepare to another duel with Metal Sonic. While playing as Tails, Rocket Shoes and Snowboards are now replaced with Hyper Heli-Tails power-ups, which make him fly in a manner similar to Sonic's Rocket Shoes.
