Route Signals[1] are gimmicks that appears in the console/PC version of Sonic Generations. They are signals that control the player's route in Seaside Hill.

Description

Route Signals are screens floating in midair which either show a yellow image of a Bobsled or a green image of a turtle.

Overview

The Route Signals are exclusively found in Seaside Hill Act 2. Their function is to determine the route the player will take across the Stage, with the route being decided by the image depicted by the Route Signal when the player passes it. If the player passes the yellow Route Signal, they will take a road with a Cart, and if the player passes the green Route Signal, they enter a path composed of platforms carried by large turtles across the sea. The player is taken to these routes by a Cannon which is controlled by the Route Signals.

The Route Signals are not steady and are constantly changing, meaning the player has to time it correctly when passing the Route Signal to reach the desired route.

Trivia

  • The Route Signals bear a strong resemblance to the Formation Signals in Sonic Heroes. This is not coincidental as Seaside Hill, where the Route Signals appear in, first debuted in Sonic Heroes.
