Safi's directionally-challenged older sister. Her sense of direction is so poor, in fact, that it's become almost legendary, with new and embarrassing chapters of the Sammar Saga being recorded on a daily basis.

— Directory, Sonic Unleashed (Xbox 360/PlayStation 3)

Sammar (ファティマ Fatima?) is a character that appears in Sonic Unleashed. She is a human resident of Shamar and the older sister of Safi. Sammar possesses a lack of direction that has made her almost legendary throughout Shamar.

History[]

Xbox 360/PlayStation 3[]

During her life, Sammar's terrible sense of direction made her get lost on a daily basis; sometimes, Sammar could be lost for days when going out shopping before coming home. As such, Sammar was looked after by her brother Safi, though Sammar always mistook his worries about her as a sign that he depended on her. Regardless, Sammar always told Safi where she was going before leaving. At some point, she was given a note with her home address on by Safi to use to get back home when she got lost, though Sammar would sometimes forget about it.

During the beginning of Sonic Unleashed, Sammar went out shopping at night where she was possessed by Dark Gaia's Minions, which made her act like a goofball who believed she had an excellent sense of direction. While under the influence of Dark Gaia's Minions, Sammar left Shamar without telling Safi.

When daytime came and Sammar returned to normal, she had arrived in Apotos, but with no recollection of what she had been doing. Later, she met Sonic the Hedgehog and Chip, and told them of how she could not remember what she did last night. When it became nighttime again, Sammar met Sonic the Werehog and Chip again, but due to influence of Dark Gaia's Minions becoming active again at night, she laughed at them and asked if they were lost before offering them help as she claimed to have an excellent sense of direction.

For some time, Sammar continued to shift between her moods between day and night, until she was exorcised by Sonic the Werehog and Chip when they returned. As Sammar recovered from her exorcism, she felt refreshed and lighter before telling Sonic and Chip that she wanted to go home to see Safi. As she pondered on how to get home, Sammar thought that if she kept walking towards warm air, as she remembered Shamar was always warm and sunny, she would get home. Sammar then took her leave from Sonic and Chip and left Apotos.

After leaving Apotos, Sammar went towards the warm air, until she arrived in Mazuri. There, she later met Sonic and Chip again, where she asked them where she was and explained how she thought she would be home now, though she believed she had went too far towards the warm air. Thinking that she could get home if she walked towards cool air now, Sammar told Sonic and Chip about her plan and left Mazuri.

After leaving Mazuri, Sammar went towards the cool air, until she arrived in Holoska. There, she later met Sonic and Chip again, where she asked them where she was and explained how she thought she would be home now, though she believed she had went too far towards the cool air. He also asked them what was up with the cold snow and noted for different it was for Shamar. Thinking that she could get home if she walked towards the hustle and bustle now, since Shamar was hustling and bustling with people, Sammar told Sonic and Chip about her plan and left Holoska.

After leaving Holsoka, Sammar went towards the hustle and bustle of the city, until she arrived in Empire City. There, she later met Sonic and Chip again, where she asked them where she was and explained how she thought she would be home now, though she knew this was not Shamar. Thinking that she could get home if she walked towards where the eastern influence was strongest, since Shamar had an eastern influence to it, Sammar told Sonic and Chip about her plan and left Empire City.

After leaving Empire City, Sammar went towards the strongest eastern influence, until she arrived in Chun-nan. There, she later met Sonic and Chip again, where she asked them where she was and explained how she thought she would be home now, though she knew this was not Shamar. While talking to Sonic and Chip, Sammar was talken in by the local meat buns, but quickly decided to get home quickly. Thinking that she could get home if she walked towards where the sun shines brighter, since Shamar was always sunny, Sammar told Sonic and Chip about her plan and left Chun-nan.

After leaving Chun-nan, Sammar went towards where the sun shone brightest until she arrived in Adabat. There, she later met Sonic and Chip again, where she asked them where she was and explained how she thought she would be home now, though she knew this was not Shamar. Regardless, Sammar thought the place was beautiful and was amazed at seeing so much water in one place. A while later, Sammar met Sonic and Chip again, where she was told by Sonic that he knew Safi, while mentioning the note with her home address on. Initially, Sammar was unsure of what he was taking about, but then remembered and found the note in her pocket. She then planned to show the note with her home address to people she would meet on her way home so they could direct her until she was back in Shamar. Sammar then told Sonic and Chip not to worry anymore and that she would get home and put her brother's worries to rest, before leaving Adabat.

With her note, Sammar got back to Shamar and was reunited with Safi. Later on, she met Sonic and Chip, and told them of how happy she was to be back home, which fit with all her earlier descriptions. As Sammar was then given advises by Safi to go by when she got lost, she told him that he was a worry-heart and that she would just have to stick to him to settle his worries.

Sammar later watched on in horror with the rest of her town as Dark Gaia began to cast the world into darkness while maturing into Perfect Dark Gaia, but later rejoiced when the world returned to normal following Perfect Dark Gaia's defeat at the hands of Super Sonic and the Gaia Colossus.

Wii/PlayStation 2[]

Sammar never made an in-game appearance during the Wii/PlayStation 2 version of Sonic Unleashed, and only appeared during the pre-rendered cutscenes. During Sonic the Hedgehog and the Gaia Colossus's confrontation with Dark Gaia, Sammar watched on in horror with the rest of her town as Dark Gaia began to cast the world into darkness while maturing into Perfect Dark Gaia, but later rejoiced when the world returned to normal following Perfect Dark Gaia's defeat at the hands of Super Sonic and the Gaia Colossus.

Personality[]

Sammar is well-known for having no sense of direction, and can get so lost that it is downright embarrassing; she can sometimes go out shopping and end up not coming home for days. While Sammar is aware that she is very directionally-challenged, she remains very carefree about it. The only thing she is concerned about when she is lost, is that her brother worries about her, because she think he depends too much on her.
