Meropan Sand Dollars, from Sonic Universe #94.

Meropan Sand Dollars[1] are objects mentioned in the Sonic the Hedgehog and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It refers to the regional currency used in Meropis.

Meropan Sand Dollars are tan and circular in appearance with five lines spaced out on each. The conversion rate between it and the currency on the surface is very low: a big payment in Sand Dollars only amounts to a few small bills on the surface.[1]

Razor handing his share of Sand Dollars to Pearly, from Sonic the Hedgehog #270.

During the Chaos Emerald Championship, Razor the Shark would place bets with Sand Dollars against Captain Striker the Mantis Shrimp, King Puff and Pearly the Manta Ray.[2] Later on, after rescuing Princess Undina from the Pirates of the Setting Dawn, the Chaotix would earn a large amount of Sand Dollars from King Puff and Queen Angelica. However, due to its low conversion rate, the Chaotix only truly earned small bills.[1]

  • In real-life, sand dollars are extremely flattened burrowing sea urchins.
