Sega Sammy Holdings is a company that was founded in 2004 from the merger of Sega and Sammy Corporation. It owns Sega, the company that made the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.


In 2004, Sammy acquired noted game company Sega under a new company called Sega Sammy Holdings Inc.. In 2005, Sammy Golf Entertainment Inc. was renamed Sega Sammy Golf Entertainment Inc. On 7 March 2005, Sammy Studios, Inc. broke away from Sammy and renamed itself High Moon Studios. On 29 February 2008, Sammy Europe, Ltd. broke away from Sega Sammy Holdings Inc. On 31 March 2008, Sega Korea, Ltd. broke away from Sega Sammy Holdings Inc.
