Silver once again listened to Mephiles's manipulation, and tracked Sonic down when he was carrying Princess Elise. After a brief battle, Silver paralyzed Sonic with PK, while Doctor Eggman imprisoned the princess again. As Silver was going to finish Sonic down, Shadow appeared and broke free Sonic from Silver's psychic powers. In surprise, Silver mistook Shadow as Mephiles interfering with him again but Shadow corrects him. Sonic thanked the black blur and continued his mission, while Shadow fought Silver in a wide area in Radical Train.
At the start of the battle, pick up Rings so that the player is not defeated by Shadow with only a single kick. The conveyor belts that stretch across the top of the train yard are full of Rings, and the player can spy two Ring Capsules hanging from the underside of two loading cranes. After collecting Rings, drop down to the ground level and scoop up crates and barrels with PK. Look for Shadow and hurl the crates at him to cause damage. Beware of Shadow throwing lightning at the crates while you are holding them, which causes the player a temporary immobilization (he does this every time the player keeps a distance from him). If Shadow gets the drop on the player, look for additional Rings in the middle of the train yard on the ground. It is also a good idea to leave a least one Ring Capsule in the air as a backup just in case the battle goes poorly and the player needs the Rings to survive. When Shadow starts kicking, back off. If the player is touched by the light waves caused by his powerful feet, the player will lose his Rings.
When Shadow is nearly finished, he will activate his Chaos Boost which turns his spears into lances; damaging the player instead of freezing them should the lances touch them.
It is interesting to note that Shadow cannot use the Chaos Boost if he was the playable character against Silver, because there are no enemies to give him a Chaos Drive.
