Snail (カタツムリ Katatsumuri?), as it is named in early design documents, is a scrapped badnik that was set to appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.


Its design is an overgrown snail with spikes at the top of its body. In the Nick Arcade and Simon Wai prototypes, it is featured in Emerald Hill Zone, where it speeds up after seeing the player character. It otherwise acts very similarly to Moto Bug, except it can handle more varied terrain. Different attack patterns have been considered for the snail according to early design documents, in which it would have clung to a wall similar to Snail Blaster. It was also considered for Hill Top Zone in this alternate form.


  • While it did not return as a normal enemy in the 2013 mobile re-release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it does appear as a new Emerald Hill object in Debug Mode.
