A newly developed Polar Bear type robot for cold regions. Its specialty is unleashing powerful attacks with its super heavy body. Its body is also tough, and this makes it a formidable enemy that will not be taken down with just a few attacks.

— Description, Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode II website[1]

The Snowy[1] (ベアラ[2] Beara?, lit. "Bearer") is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, polar bear-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman that was devolped for cold regions.

Appearance[]

The Snowies are based on polar bears. Unlike regular polar bears, however, they walk on two legs. They boast a bulky body with no neck between their heads and torsos, and possess menacing black eyes. Their torsos are dark blue with white chest armor and white belt-like plating around their waists. They also have light blue upper arms and massive white forearms with red joints at their elbow joints and large four-fingered paws with yellow claws. They also have stubby and heavy light blue legs with white armor plating around their ankles and red rims between their legs and pelvis. Lastly, they have oversized jaws, black noses, a blue patch across their faces, and round ears with red inner ears on their heads.

A Snowy, from Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II.

In Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II, the Snowies appear as enemies. They are only encountered in White Park Zone.

In gameplay, when the Snowies see the playable character, they will approach them with hands upright toward the direction of the playable character, attempting to hurt them by slamming their large hands together. Also, unlike most other Badniks in the game, it takes three hits instead of one to destroy them. Noticeably, after taking two hits, a Snowy will begin to emit smoke and create sparks. Using the Rolling Combo or Super Sonic will lower its defense to two hits. Despite its size and increased endurance however, Snowies still award the player with 100 points upon death, as well as releasing an Animal.

Powers and abilities[]

The Snowies are slow, but possess great power in the form of super strength great enough to move around their heavy bodies. They also possess tough bodies for a Badnik, which make them formidable enemies.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing, a Snowy once assisted Dr. Starline with clearing out the contents of an Eggman base in Frozen Peak while under the protection of Metal Sonic. With the aid of a wormhole provided by Starline's Warp Topaz, the Snowy was able to quickly get the base's contents to safety.[3]

Having obtained a used Snowy for his collection in his suite at the White Park Grand Chateau, Clutch would activate the Snowy and have it attack Amy, Cream, Gemerl and Belle after they crossed him. The Snowy quickly singled out Amy, whose Piko Piko Hammer could not do much harm to it. The Snowy proceeded to chase Amy, who hit it with pieces of furniture, which angered it further.[4] As the Snowy continued its fight with Amy, it managed to hit her when she got distracted. However, it eventually got distracted by a Chao. Gemerl soon after managed to get a hold of its arm, which allowed Amy to reach the Snowy's head and crush it, thereby destroying it.[5]

When Dr. Starline took over the Eggman Empire, he sent out an override code that brought Badniks all over the world under his control, including the Snowys. The Snowys would then make their way towards Eggperial City upon Starline's command, eventually arriving in said city in droves.[6]

Later, during their escape from the Eggperial City, Sonic, Tails, and Belle were pursued by the Badnik Horde, with a Snowy being among them.[7]

During Orbot and Cubot's Winter Jam reality show, a Snowy in the audience of Badniks would get furious when Cubot revealed that the new mystery Badnik was actually "Froggy" the whole time.[8]
