===Lists vs Articles===
* Lists vs Articles - We lean towards articles, because they're more condusive to people adding information, and as this is a Sonic Wiki, it should get pretty specific. If you think it's appropriate, use lists that point to separate articles. But if you can write a page about even the most obscure character, by all means go ahead!

  +
* In Sonic Wiki, we prefer that each character/object/location/etc should have its own article, rather than being grouped into long lists. Individual articles are more conducive to people adding information, and as this is a Sonic Wiki, we want as much information as possible! The more specific the better (as long as information isn't ripped directly from the source)!

  +
*If you feel it is appropriate, you can use lists that link to more specific articles. However, any explanatory paragraphs in long lists should be kept brief, with the majority of information in the destination pages.
* As for characters, they are allowed to have a seperate article for each continuity. For example, a game article, [[Bean the Dynamite]], and an Archie article, [[Bean the Dynamite (Archie)]]. This is for two reasons:

# Firstly, some characters have vastly different and mutually contradictory portrayls in particular continuites, so it makes sense for them to be addressed seperately.

# The second is a practical constraint, in that pages which deal with multiple continuities tend to get so long it's a chore to edit or read them. If you find an article that you think could do with being chopped into more digestable pieces, don't hesitate to post a suggestion on the discussion page, or bring it up with one of SNN's sysops.

  +
*If you can write a page about even the most obscure character, by all means go ahead! (If it's ''really'' obscure, make sure you say where you got the information from, so other users can verify your work.)
* Two other random things:

** Measurements (height, weight, etc.) should be in metric with english system in parenthesis

** Ages should be those from Sonic Channel. We seem to have a problem with people being obsessed with changing the ages, and fighting over them.

===Character pages===
* We ask that you refrain from foul language, by replacing it with *'s. Each curse (Hell is allowed.) will be counted as a rule violation, and you '''''will''''' recieve a warning template, seen [[Template:Warning|here]]. Your first three will be taken for granted, and unless extremely harsh, (IE:Telling a user to stfu, gtfo, or offend them in some other way.) will be ignored. ''However'', if you break a rule a fourth time, instead of being warned again, you will be banned. The amount of time the ban will last varies, depending on the broken violations. It most cases, they will be only a week. Repetitive offenders will be indefinately blocked.

So, no telling another user to stfu, or gtfo, or attacking them for their personal taste / opinion on a product. It's one thing when you're joking, and we'll let you slide, but if you're intentional, that's ''it''.

===Fan-made information===
* Any sort of fanon that ''isn't'' in your userspace will be <u>deleted</u> on sight. So, when making an article for your fanfiction, or fancharacter, or whatever, place it as User:Insert your username here/Name of article. For example: [[User:SLJCOAAATR 1/E-106 Eta]].

  +
*Fan-made information is tolerated, but must be confined to pages in userspace. Other pages will be deleted. When making an article for your fanfiction, fancharacter, or any other fanon article, you should place it within your own user page, or in a subpage of your user page. You can create a subpage by creating a page as normal at User:Username/CharacterName. For example, if [[User:Supermorff]] created a character named "Gordon the Gopher", it would be included at [[User:Supermorff/Gordon the Gopher]].
** Also, even fanon pages that are kept in userspace must ''not'' have canon categories, which includes [[:Category:Characters]] or ''any'' of its subcategories.

** Don't forget to keep fanart ''out'' of mainspace!

  +
*Fan character pages must not have any canon categories, which includes [[:Category:Characters]] or any of its subcategories (such as [[:Category:Hedgehogs]]). You may instead categorise your fanon articles in [[:Category:Userspace]], or its subcategories.

  +
*You may post fanart that you have created, but it must not appear in any canon or mainspace article. In particular, do ''not'' add fanart of your favourite character on that character's page. It will be swiftly removed. You may include fanart in userspace or in the forums, but also be aware that fanart not in use on any pages is likely to be deleted.
  +
  +
*Fan pictures must be categorised in [[:Category:Fanart]] and ''no other categories''.
  +
  +
*You may ''not'' link to your fan articles from mainspace pages. In addition, from 30 June 2009, no redirects to fan articles will be allowed. Instead, if you wish to link to your fan article from another user page you should pipe-link as follows: <nowiki>[[User:Supermorff/Gordon the Gopher|Gordon the Gopher]]</nowiki>, which appears as: [[User:Supermorff/Gordon the Gopher|Gordon the Gopher]].

* Information about rumors is ''despised'' by those who come here for the accurate, reliable information that we should have. So do us a favor, and don't go all willy-nilly, telling us that your favorite fan-site, SonicRetardly.Net says that [[Mighty the Armadillo]] is getting his own tv series, and that the rumor has been thrown into reliable sources under 'Rumor:' so it ''must'' be true. '''''IT ISN'T'''''. Keep rumors <u>out</u>, or we'll get some R-R-R-R-ROID RAGE on you.

* ''Correct grammer''. How hard is it to use ''correct grammer''? You know, using ''too'' when saying '[[Amy Rose]] wanted to fight too!', not ''to'', or ''two''. Text talk will make our admins become baboons. We'll deal with it on user-pages, and forums, but if you seep your text talk into articles, OH HO HO. Don't even get me started. Just ''don't do it''. If you're un-sure how to spell something, ask another user for help. They'll help you.

* At the moment, we ''forbid'' non-Sonic articles, even regarding characters from other, related franchises. This includes for [[Mario]], [[Luigi]], [[Fox McCloud]], [[Pikachu]], [[Donkey Kong]], [[Ristar]], etc. This policy ''will'' change in due time, while get things straight. But for now, anyone who attempts to by-pass these rules by creating an article for one of these characters will be reprimanded, and perhaps banned.

* In general, no Non-Sonic images. Don't go uploading images of Goku screaming "IT'S OVER 9000", or something of the variation. It serves ''no'' relevance here, so it'll be deleted on sight. There's a ''few'' exceptions, but ask an admin about that.

The Sonic News Network is a wiki with the goal of becoming a vast, knowledgeable source about all things related to Sonic the Hedgehog. Anyone can help build and improve it, and we encourage all Sonic fans to do so. It was started 11 September, 2005 and currently contains 20,128 articles. The main page is here.

To Help Out

Anonymous users are welcome, but we recommend that you Create an account and Log in. This hides your IP address from public view and give your fellow contributors a name to associate with your edits. Please note that you may (and we recommend that you do) use a pseudonym instead of your real name for your username.

Some Standards

Lists vs Articles

  • In Sonic Wiki, we prefer that each character/object/location/etc should have its own article, rather than being grouped into long lists. Individual articles are more conducive to people adding information, and as this is a Sonic Wiki, we want as much information as possible! The more specific the better (as long as information isn't ripped directly from the source)!
  • If you feel it is appropriate, you can use lists that link to more specific articles. However, any explanatory paragraphs in long lists should be kept brief, with the majority of information in the destination pages.
  • If you can write a page about even the most obscure character, by all means go ahead! (If it's really obscure, make sure you say where you got the information from, so other users can verify your work.)

Character pages

  • Characters are allowed to have a seperate article for each continuity. For example, a game article, Bean the Dynamite, and an Archie article, Bean the Dynamite (Archie). This is for two reasons:
    1. Some characters have vastly different and mutually contradictory portrayals in particular continuites, so it makes sense for them to be addressed seperately.
    2. Pragmatically, pages that deal with multiple continuities tend to get so long that it's a chore to edit or read them. If you find an article that you think could do with being chopped into more digestable pieces, don't hesitate to post a suggestion on the discussion page, or bring it up with one of SNN's sysops.
  • Measurements (height, weight, etc.) should be in metric with Imperial (English) measures in parentheses.
  • Ages for game characters should be those from Sonic Channel. We seem to have a problem with people being obsessed with changing the ages, and fighting over them. Characters from other continuities (e.g. the Archie version of Sonic the Hedgehog) may have different ages on their pages, but only if those ages have been confirmed in their respective canons.

User behaviour

  • We ask that you refrain from foul language, by replacing it with *'s. Each curse (Hell is allowed.) will be counted as a rule violation, and you will recieve a warning template, seen here. Your first three will be taken for granted, and unless extremely harsh, (IE:Telling a user to stfu, gtfo, or offend them in some other way.) will be ignored. However, if you break a rule a fourth time, instead of being warned again, you will be banned. The amount of time the ban will last varies, depending on the broken violations. It most cases, they will be only a week. Repetitive offenders will be indefinitely blocked.
  • Any offense to another user will result in an automatic ban. It will usually be for one week. If the blocking admin feels you were quite harmful, the ban could last longer than the one week. So, no telling another user to stfu, or gtfo, or attacking them for their personal taste / opinion on a product. It's one thing when you're joking, and we'll let you slide, but if you're intentional, that's it.

Fan-made information

  • Fan-made information is tolerated, but must be confined to pages in userspace. Other pages will be deleted. When making an article for your fanfiction, fancharacter, or any other fanon article, you should place it within your own user page, or in a subpage of your user page. You can create a subpage by creating a page as normal at User:Username/CharacterName. For example, if User:Supermorff created a character named "Gordon the Gopher", it would be included at User:Supermorff/Gordon the Gopher.
  • You may post fanart that you have created, but it must not appear in any canon or mainspace article. In particular, do not add fanart of your favourite character on that character's page. It will be swiftly removed. You may include fanart in userspace or in the forums, but also be aware that fanart not in use on any pages is likely to be deleted.
  • Fan pictures must be categorised in Category:Fanart and no other categories.
  • You may not link to your fan articles from mainspace pages. In addition, from 30 June 2009, no redirects to fan articles will be allowed. Instead, if you wish to link to your fan article from another user page you should pipe-link as follows: [[User:Supermorff/Gordon the Gopher|Gordon the Gopher]], which appears as: Gordon the Gopher.

References

  • Please give proof of the information you're adding, so that it can verified as true, instead of random gibberish. To add a reference to an article, simply type <ref>[Link to source here.]</ref>
    • It is asked that you try to refrain from using fan-sites as references, or external links, since there's a good chance that the information in the link may be inaccurate. There are some cases where a fan-site could be allowed. But, before pulling a daring stunt, ask on of our admins if they think the said site can be used in an article. The same applies to YouTube, FaceBook, DailyMotion, MySpace, and others of the variation.
  • Information about rumors is despised by those who come here for the accurate, reliable information that we should have. So do us a favor, and don't go all willy-nilly, telling us that your favorite fan-site, SonicRetardly.Net says that Mighty the Armadillo is getting his own tv series, and that the rumor has been thrown into reliable sources under 'Rumor:' so it must be true. IT ISN'T. Keep rumors out, or we'll get some R-R-R-R-ROID RAGE on you.

Non-Sonic pages

  • At the moment, we forbid non-Sonic articles, even regarding characters from other, related franchises. This includes for Mario, Luigi, Fox McCloud, Pikachu, Donkey Kong, Ristar, etc. This policy will change in due time, while get things straight. But for now, anyone who attempts to by-pass these rules by creating an article for one of these characters will be reprimanded, and perhaps banned.
  • In general, no Non-Sonic images. Don't go uploading images of Goku screaming "IT'S OVER 9000", or something of the variation. It serves no relevance here, so it'll be deleted on sight. There's a few exceptions, but ask an admin about that.

Other standards

  • Correct grammer. How hard is it to use correct grammer? You know, using too when saying 'Amy Rose wanted to fight too!', not to, or two. Text talk will make our admins become baboons. We'll deal with it on user-pages, and forums, but if you seep your text talk into articles, OH HO HO. Don't even get me started. Just don't do it. If you're un-sure how to spell something, ask another user for help. They'll help you.
  • DO NOT share your account with anyone. If another person does something to your account. Too bad. It could easily be an excuse, and is not tolerated. You are responsible for you.
  • Don't use videos in mainspace articles. Why? Why can't you do things the encyclopedic way, ad make a relevant, sourced, grammatically correct, important paragraph, instead of uploading a video to the article, when it serves no relevance. A link to an official trailer in an external links section is fine, though.

All articles (about Sonic of course) are authorized, and policy pretty much boils down to "Go at it as you see fit," and remember the Wikipedia motto, Be Bold.
