Sonic News Network:Requests For Adminship

From the Sonic News Network, the Sonic Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Requests for adminship (RfA) is the process by which this wiki's community decides who will become administrators (also known as admins or sysops), who are users with access to additional features, most notably the ability to delete pages and to block users. A user either submits his/her own request for adminship (a self-nomination) or is nominated by another user. Please become familiar with the Administrators' how-to guide before submitting your request. This process is modeled around Wikipedia's RfA process, and more information can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship.

Contents

[edit] Nominating

To submit a nomination, please create a section below the "Current nominations for adminship" line listing the nominee's username as a piped link to his/her userpage. Below that, please include a statement about why you are nominating this person and why you think they will be a good admin. The nominee should then accept (or reject) the nomination, and include a statement about why (s)he wants to become an admin, why (s)he thinks (s)he is a good candidate, and what (s)he plans to do with administrator rights. All parties must sign sign and date their statements.

To submit a self-nomination, please create a section below the "Current nominations for adminship" line listing your username as a piped link to your userpage. Below that, please include a statement about why you want to become an admin, why you think you are a good candidate, and what you plan to do with administrator rights. Please sign and date your statement.

Editorial Note: Adminship is NOT taken lightly. You may actually want to spend some time on your request. A couple sentences is hardly sufficient to show that you won't cause more problems than you solve with admin tools, let alone that you think that there is a good reason why more admins are necessary and that you would be a good candidate for a new admin, that you're willing to put time and effort into this wiki, and that you know how to use admin powers properly and would do so.

[edit] Process

Users may list questions for the candidate (which it would probaby be good to answer) in the Questions section and/or comment in support of or opposition to the request for adminship in the Discussion section. In the Discussion section, please preceed your post with Oppose, Neutral, or Support (you may modifies those with Strong or Weak.) Please not that this is not a majority vote, it is an attempt to assess the community's consensus regarding the candidate. Moreover, to become an admin, the candidate should have the support of most of the community, so if the vote is split, the candidate will probably not be given adminship. After a reasonable amount of time, a bureacrat (a user who has even more rights than an administrator, and can give other users admin rights) will read through your request, determine the community's consensus about whether you should be made an admin, and close the discussion.

[edit] Current Nominations For Adminship

Here are the users who are currently nominated for sysop, rollback, or other privileges. After the answer has been given, please remove their section. Only users with priveliges may cast a vote on giving another user rights. Majority rules. Please remember to give a reason as to why you think a user does, or doesn't deserve to be an admin. Please place Yes, or No before your initial comment, and user :'s, and *'s to reply to another users comment. Non-admins may place their opinion, but their vote will be ignored.

[edit] SLJ's-a Nominat'n

Oh, YES Please voice your opinions! SLJCOAAATR Soul 23:40, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Well, I'll start off with a big fat No for all of these. Back when I was campaignin' for ops, SLJ, you claimed that the 2 active admins (i.e. you and FFF) were adequate for the task. Now we have 4 (Me and Monkey); and you want to DOUBLE that number?? Make up your mind!!!??1?! ¯\(°_o)/¯ - LOL
Also, with respect to Bionicle; you do realise that setting up another Sonic wiki takes manpower and editors away from us rather than adding it, don't you? So if anything, Bionicle should get a BAN rather than Ops... The Doctor... IS IN Molten Scandium 00:07, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
I am desperate for SNN improvement, and was greedy at the time of your editorial, and hardly knew you. I wasn't about to just go make some dude I just met an admin. I at least know more of these people. Besides, what will more help harm?
As for Bionicle, by that logic, anyone including you, FFF, me, and several others should be banned. SLJCOAAATR Soul 00:37, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
It's very GOOD logic, isn't it? :D
Although I'll have you know that my Userpage itself complains angrily about there being seperate sites for different bits of Sonic info. Collecting it all together in one place is the whole reason I'm here at all. So BIONICLE'S WIKI MAKES MOLTEN ANGRYYYYYYYYY!!!
On the other hand, your argument 'it can't do any harm' is fair play. I maintain "no" for now, on the reasons outlined above, but I may change my mind if I see the members of this motley crew perpetuate impressive fantasticness at some point in the future. The Doctor... IS IN Molten Scandium 01:05, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
You hold a very good debate with the seperate wiki thing, but hey, that's up to Central Wikia, not us. I don't agree with it too much either, but if we have, we might as well help it. And hey, they could go a litte more in-depth in places that we really don't. Maybe someday, when we all fail, we can merge into one win. SLJCOAAATR Soul 02:39, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Molten, we have over one thousand articles already. If we're going to make this wiki get to its full potential we need seperate admins with different specialities to patrol certain parts of the wiki.Fairfieldfencer FFF 07:22, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Well, it looks like I'm getting outvoted 2 to 1 anyway, rendering my opinion completly moot. **** you, Aristotle, and **** your "demos-cracy". -_-
LOL The Doctor... IS IN Molten Scandium 01:43, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

The wild SLJCOAAATR used Ban on the wild Molten Scandium, for appearing with fowl language! Wild Molten Scandium is throwing a fit! 653exp. gained! SLJCOAAATR Soul 03:03, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm not in a rush or anything, but does anyone know roughly how long this discussion/vote is going to be open? I know Mystic hasn't had a say yet, but all of the active bureaucrats have. I guess I'm just a little curious as to who's in (besides The Doctor, I mean). -- Supermorff 12:46, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

However long consenus takes. SLJCOAAATR Soul 22:40, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Am i am admin yet? the suspence is like needing to pee but not being able to pee. Show me that golden bathroom. Myself 123 01:13, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Wait, we need unanimous consensus rather than just a democratic majority? SWEET! I can put the whole process on hold indefinatly, on my own, just out of general douchebaggery! :D
Ha-hem. But I'm not going to do so, irrespective of how much lulz it might garner. I hereby rescind my vague and nebulous objections to User:Supermorff and User:Myself 123's Adminship. Over the previous couple of days, I've discovered that they have indeed been toiling away in the shadows for some weeks - and even moreso of late (which almost makes me want to prevaricate for more time, if the specter of just-out-of-reach Sysops encourages their productivity?).
Havn't seen nickno blitzkreiging the Recent Changes list of late, though; perhaps if someone would point me in the direction of their Ops-worthy contributions, I might be swayed?
Bionicle... still not much on this Wiki to my knowledge. Get some good edits under your belt, though, and I'll be happy to reconsider. The Doctor... IS IN Molten Scandium 02:14, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Hmm. Well, apparently, I'm the only one who realises we now have unanimity and consensus on 2. I'LL sysops 'em, then! The Doctor... IS IN Molten Scandium 11:40, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
Hooray, thank you! -- Supermorff 11:51, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
Well. Now that I look closer, it seems we don't have unanimity because User:Mystic Monkey has e-vanished sans voting. Ah, well. Sorry Mystic. But I think it was just about time for the polls to close anyway. WHAT'S DONE CANNOT BE UNDONE. (Actually it can, but... meh) The Doctor... IS IN Molten Scandium 12:09, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey, dudes. Hmmm...I seem to not be Sysop still. I'll get active again if that's what's wrong. I've just been busy playing the games. o_O ***Super!~Nickno 15:45, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

SWEET! I'm one step closer to godhood. Myself 123 20:17, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

So, now that Supermorff and i are admins, does that mean we can vote on the others? Myself 123 22:49, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
I guess so. SLJCOAAATR Soul 23:31, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
I wouldn't bother, though. 'Cos as discussed above, I can just veto them. AND I WILL. :P The Doctor... IS IN Molten Scandium 00:31, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
lol. Probably best waiting some time. SLJCOAAATR Soul 01:07, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
We should probably remove these sections. Definitely for Myself and, uh, myself. Possibly for Nick and Bionicle as well, to be re-added at some later date perhaps. -- Supermorff 09:58, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Why remove me? I'm STILL not a Sysop. :( ***Super!~Nickno 20:23, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Just point me in the direction of all the cool stuff you've done and I'll vote for you! (Probably!) The Doctor... IS IN Molten Scandium 23:18, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Here's some stuff I've done.

NiGHTS ~ My first work. When I started out on this wiki, I made the NiGHTS page from scratch. It had only a Wikipedia redirect at the time. So, yeah. Archie Sonic the Hedgehog Issue 191 ~ I made from scratch, too. It became a featured article after a few days of me making it. :) pretty good, I'd say. I plan to make all of the other Archie Sonic articles as well. how's that for some examples? ***Super!~Nickno 18:48, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, This is... Uh... "Bionicle" here (Please just call me Akamia) I have just come to say that I would be happy to wait a few months(years?) for Sysop status. I understand my edits were pretty small, but it's because those articles were already written with what I already know (some I know nothing about, i.e. Mammoth Mogul, Who is he?! I don't receive the comics!) As stated on my section in this page I am not the best, and these small edits are proof of that, but all I am saying is every little bit counts, and it adds up, giving you a nice, strong article (or blog or whatever you can think of, lol). Personally I think myself as the quiet type, but I have contradicted myself quite a bit in my history, and as a result, became a little more active in the wiki. But, I'll need to tell you I am bad at Music articles (How do you sing "This Machine" anyway??) See what I mean? (yawn)Ok, I must have talked too much, (Another contradiction!! See?) So, see you around the wiki.--Akamia(Talk)(Want to see what I've been doing?) 12:08, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] User:Supernicknobros (Sysop)

  • YES: Since he returned, Nick's been very busy, and hard at work with making articles for the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comics. One of which, quickly became a Featured Article. He even sort of sparked new life upon the FAOTM, to say, and inspired me to create the FUOTM. He's already a rollback, and has made good use of it. Being a sysop would likely encourage him to do more hard work, and help him clean up spam that he can't already clean. SLJCOAAATR Soul 23:40, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
  • Yes: Nick is by far a great user. Talented is template creation, has an intimate knowledge of Archie Sonic subjects and would rove very useful to us. Giving him adminship would definitely increase his potential.Fairfieldfencer FFF 07:19, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Accept. I'm not the best you can get, but I learn and I've improved in helping wikis. I've done stuff for the Smash Wiki, ArchieSonic Wiki, and the Sonic Wiki (of course). Sysop privileges will be useful for any problems that pop up here or there. I'll always be up to the task and ready for action! ***Super!~Nickno 01:46, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] FFF's nominee

[edit] User:Skylerthewasp (rollback)

Has shown to be a very capable and watchful user who I think could progress even more with a promotion.Fairfieldfencer FFF 11:39, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

More info, plox. What are Skyler's significant contributions, best articles, blah, blah...? The Doctor... IS IN Molten Scandium 12:15, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Don't really know about articles, but he's always come to me whenever a articles needs deleting. I think he'd be a good "patrol man" as I like to call them.Fairfieldfencer FFF 17:33, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
What do rollbacks do anyway? Can they just rollback several edits or is there more to it? Myself 123 17:39, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Given that I was put on Rollback briefly before Sysops and Bureau, I can tell you that it's pretty much useless. It's like a multiple-undo, but only works on one person's edits, and you can frankly do a much better job by just dredging an old version out of the article histories, which dosn't require any special priveliges at all. I have rarely if ever found reason to use it. The Doctor... IS IN Molten Scandium 18:06, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Well it's quicker than simply undoing an edit, but it can be a right pain when it turns out it's just that one edit that's wrong by a single person who has done multiple edits, and you do a rollback and revert the entire thing.Fairfieldfencer FFF 21:20, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Rollback is more of a pain, than a help. I've only actually used it a hand-ful of times. SLJCOAAATR Soul 19:26, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
What rollback status gives you is not important. It's the responsbility that comes with it that matters.Fairfieldfencer FFF 20:09, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Surely the two things are intricately linked: the responsibility is to use the privileges well and in good faith. If the privileges are not useful, then that means the responsibility is not to use them, which is a bizarre concept and not much motivation for throwing around rollback privileges. -- Supermorff 06:37, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
  • YES: Irigardless of the pointlessness of rollback status, i belive Skyler deserves recognition for his hard work. Myself 123 23:38, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
  • THE BRINK OF MAYBE: Persuade me guys. SLJCOAAATR Soul 23:58, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
    • Reply: Skyler seems to keep a good eye over the recent changes, as he has been reporting loads of spam articles to me. I reckon rollback could very well get him closer to the adminship he deserves, with some more hard work.Fairfieldfencer FFF 08:35, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I may have only been here for about 2½ months. But, in that short time, I have erected by far the largest user subspace on the site, and perhaps in Wikimedia history.

That's a dozen reasons I should be an Admin. I see that SLJCOAAATR 1 is, unfortunately, leaving us, so I could be his replacement (although there's no way in hell I'd be able to live up to his demanding standards).</noinclude>--The prefessional launchballer is The Duchy of Effenhauer Junior and is very resourceful. 10:58, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

SLJs leaving? Wish he told me. But yeah I think you got stuff to help out around here.--Mystic Monkey 00:27, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
We have a process for deciding admins. Go to Sonic News Network:Requests For Adminship. -- Supermorff 06:27, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay. Thanks for that.--The prefessional launchballer is The Duchy of Effenhauer Junior and is very resourceful. 08:57, 5 July 2009 (UTC)</noinclude>
    • NO - In two and a half months you've done some good editing, but I haven't seen enough to make me want to make you an admin. Your interactions with other users are frequently condescending, and occasionally border on bullying (although I am glad to say you have not crossed that line). Having a large user subspace is not in itself particularly notable. If it helps you navigate the site, that's fine, but it doesn't improve the site much. The reason your formatting template is the most used user subpage is because you have not moved it to template space, and while you have sometimes used it to define words (which strikes me as unnecessary in most cases), far more often it seems to contain snide remarks about edits or users. And if Akamia unilaterally gave you rollback privileges without discussion with other admins, he may have exceeded his authority, no matter how much you may have earned them.
That all said, you do show potential, and you have done a lot of good things. Welcoming users is good! Making pages is good! Adding info to pages like Sonic the Fighters is good! Identifying sockpuppets and pages to delete is good! So please keep up the considerable good work you do, perhaps work on being a little less overbearing with new users, and I will reconsider my vote in the future. -- Supermorff 10:09, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
I don't see how my discussion is considered as bullying. I'm only being a little bit assertive, that's all. And I also don't see what was so snide about my usage of my formatting template, unless you are talking about the one on my talk. If anything I do is considered as bullying, at all, tell me, and I promise, I'll stfu and leave the matter alone. And thanks for complimenting me over the good work I did.--The prefessional launchballer is The Duchy of Effenhauer Junior and is very resourceful. 13:29, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
