The Sonic the Hedgehog Band was an early sound test idea that was scrapped before the release of Sonic the Hedgehog in 1991. Sonic the Hedgehog was the lead singer in a band, with Max the Monkey on bass guitar, Mach the Rabbit on drums, Sharps the Chicken on lead guitar, and Vector the Crocodile on keyboard. It was removed in favor of the iconic "SEGA" chant.
Vector is the only one of Sonic's bandmates that has, so far, made it into later games. However, all members of the band have appeared in various comic publications. Mach, Sharps and Vector appeared as Sonic's backing band in Sonic the Hedgehog Story Comic Volume 1, a manga published in Japan in 1991. Sharps, Max and Mach appeared in Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog issue 201 as Mina Mongoose's bandmates, the Forget Me Knots. In addition, Sonic's Sega Technical Institute profile indicates his role as a singer in a rock band.
