The Southern Baronies is a location in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It was a region located in the southern holdings of the Kingdom of Acorn.
History[]
To please the distrusting masses after "King George's Folly", King Abraham Acorn created the Southern Baronies as the first baronies to the southern territory of the kingdom. Two generations later, the Southern Baronies had become powerful and unruly, but was brought back under the Kingdom of Acorn's control by King Silvanus Acorn. This controversial act, however, supposedly created tensions between Southern Baronies and the Kingdom of Acorn which would manifest in future generations.[1] Regardless, the Southern Baronies remained under the control of the Kingdom of Acorn and later the Republic of Acorn.
Just before the Great War, Bunnie was born in the Southern Baronies. When the Great War broke out, some within the Southern Baronies conspired with the Overland to fight the "oppressive" Kingdom of Acorn,[2] some of which, according to Beauregard, were Bunnie's parents. When Bunnie's parents supposedly died during the conflict, she was happily raised by her uncle and aunt in the Southern Baronies for many years, but when she heard from her uncle that her parents were traitors, Bunnie rejected the notion and left the baronies.[1]
Vanilla and her daughter Cream lived in their own estate on their plantation in the Southern Baronies where they watched over one of the largest Chao Gardens on Mobius. When their home was destroyed in an attack by Snively however, they had to relocate to New Mobotropolis.[3]
Trivia[]
- It is suspected that Trey Scales's betrayal of the Original Freedom Fighters was because of a long-awaited (if weak) act of aggression against the Kingdom of Acorn, given that he still wore the uniform cap of the old Southern Baronies militia.[1]
