Speedemint Gum

The Speedemint Gum

Speedemint Gum is an object that appears in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series. It is a type of special chewing gum developed by Dr. Robotnik to help him catch Sonic the Hedgehog. When chewed, it emits "velocity vibes", making the chewer faster than Sonic.

The Speedemint Gum is incredibly precious, and Robotnik was only ever able to create a single stick of it; a thousand robot miners had to toil for years in the Big R Mine to gather enough raw materials, and millions of robot-hours were required to distill enough concentrated compound for even a single stick. Because of this, the stick was one-of-a-kind, and impossible to duplicate.

In order to test the gum, Robotnik brought Grounder to a flat plain. After chewing the gum, Grounder became so fast he was able to make a lap of Mobius. However, he was unable to slow down and the braking 'chute couldn't handle the great speeds, leading Grounder to crash into a tree and lose the gum on the road. When Tails ran past, the gum stuck to the bottom of his shoe, making him as fast as Sonic.

Tails attempted to do good deeds around Mobius using his speed, but his naivety and lack of control meant that he frequently made mistakes (including by causing a Daredevil to lose a freefall parachuting competition by catching him in mid air). Scratch and Grounder tried to get the gum back from Tails. Grounder dressed up like a girl and tricked Tails and a Biker into fighting. Although the deception was quickly discovered, the Biker pulled off Tails' shoe, making him lose his speed.

The gum was found by a turtle, who started chewing it and ran off to race a hare.[1]
