Speedemint Gum[1] is an object that appears in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series. It is a type of special chewing gum developed by Dr. Ivo Robotnik to help him catch Sonic the Hedgehog.
Description[]
Appearance[]
In its natural processed form, the Speedemint Gum resembles a simple, rectangular stick of pink chewing gum.
Powers and traits[]
When the Speedemint Gum is chewed (or otherwise exposed to pressure), it emits "velocity vibes", making the chewer faster than Sonic the Hedgehog.[1]
History[]
The Speedemint Gum is incredibly precious, and Robotnik was only ever able to create a single stick of it; a thousand robot miners had to toil for years in the Big R Mine to gather enough raw materials, and millions of robot-hours were required to distill enough concentrated compound for even a single stick. Because of this, the stick was one-of-a-kind, and impossible to duplicate.[1]
To test the gum, Robotnik brought Grounder to a flat plain. After chewing the gum, Grounder became so fast he was able to make a lap of Mobius in seconds. However, he was unable to slow down and the braking 'chute could not handle the great speeds, leading Grounder to crash into a tree and lose the gum on the road. When Tails ran past, the gum stuck to the bottom of his shoe, making him faster than Sonic.[1]
Tails attempted to do good deeds around Mobius using his speed, but his naivety and lack of control meant that he frequently made mistakes (including by causing a daredevil to lose a freefall parachuting competition by catching him in mid-air). Scratch and Grounder tried to get the gum back from Tails. Grounder dressed up as a girl and tricked Tails and a Biker into fighting. Although the deception was quickly discovered, the Biker pulled off Tails' shoe, making him lose his speed.[1]
The gum was later found by a turtle, who started chewing it and ran off to race a hare.[1]
Trivia[]
- The turtle racing a hare is an allusion to the fable The Tortoise and the Hare.
- The name of the Speedemint Gum is a parody of Spearmint Gum.
