Spike Bonkers hover above the floor, moving slowly from side-to-side. A spiked ball orbits the Spikebonker's pointed underside. When the player approaches, Spikebonker fires the ball towards them. However, the spiked ball will only travel a certain distance and then return to the Spikebonker, so that it can be fired again. In right time, the player can destroy it with Spin Jump.
Sonic the Comic
Spikebonkers also appeared as the Death Egg's security system in Sonic the Comic. Sonic battled them when he infiltrated Level 19, Sector 2. He seemed very unimpressed with their design and particularly their ridiculous name. The Spikebonkers did eventually bring Sonic before Robotnik, but Sonic insisted that he hadn't been beaten and that they had merely helped him find Robotnik.
