The Spike Trap[1] is a recurring obstacle in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a variant of the Weight with Spikes on the bottom.

Description

The Spike Traps have the same basic appearance of that of the Weights, which is a large, black and rectangular metallic block with a red line along its edges. Unlike the Weights however, they have Spikes on their bottom surface.

The Weights can moves up and down automatically in intervals. Some of them fall down instantly while others take their time. When they are about to fall, the red outline on them flashes. Filling the role of obstacles, the player will take damage should the Spike Traps fall down on Sonic or if their spikes touches him, though they will not make the player lose a 1-Up like the Crushers. Alternatively, the player can climb on top of Spike Traps as they rise, which makes them work like rising and falling platforms.

Games appearance

Sonic Unleashed

In Sonic Unleashed, Spikes Traps appear in outfits that resemble the environment that they are in. Sometimes the ground itself rise up to them.

Sonic Colors

In Sonic Colors, they appeared in Sonic Simulator, where they keep moving slowly toward the player when he is in front of them. In this game, they are in Horizontal form.

Sonic Generations

In Sonic Generations, they are large metallic obstacles that have the same abilities that appeared in the previous game. They are one of the most deadliest gimmicks in the game.
