The green mud monster releasing spores in Sonic the Comic #136. Art by Richard Elson.

Spores is a flora that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. They are plant seeds from the Mandrake Swamp of Planet Meridian, which are used as a weapon by Root and his mud monsters.

Spores put to sleep anyone that comes in contact with them, and they act so quickly that even Sonic the Hedgehog was not fast enough to escape them.

When the Chaotix Crew and Sonic visited the swamp to rescue Blockhead Bill and Society Max, the heroes were forced to battle mud monsters sent by Root. A green one released spores from all over its body, aiming them at the invaders. Despite Sonic's efforts to blow them all away with a vortex, both he and Chaotix fell asleep and were taken to Root.[1]
