Spring-backed cousin to Motobug

— Description, Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia

The Boing-o-Bot[1] (バネモトラ[2] Bane Motora?), also known as the Spring Snail,[3] is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, beetle-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance[]

Boing-o-Bots are very similar to Moto Bugs, except for a few design differences. They have a Spring on top of them and wheels on the side of their bodies, as opposed to the Moto Bugs' single wheel on their bellies. Also, their pincers are silver instead of white and blue and they lack engines on their rears. They also have an alternate coloring where their heads are black, their claws are red, and their shells are blue.

Overview[]

Bane-Motora-Sprite-Sonic-Chaos

In Sonic Chaos, the Boing-o-Bot appears as an enemy. In gameplay, Boing-o-Bots roll around in Turquoise Hill Zone (where they have red shells) and Mecha Green Hill Zone (where they have blue shells). Since they are invulnerable to attacks from above due to their Springs, the player must attack them from the sides using the Spin Attack to destroy them. Like other Badniks in the game, they do not have Animals as energy sources.

Trivia[]

  • The Boing-o-Bot's Japanese name, "Bane Motora", comes from "bane" (ばね?) meaning "spring", and Motora, the Japanese name of the Moto Bug.
