Sticks the Badger (スティックス・ザ・バジャー Sutikkusu za Bajā?) is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. She is an anthropomorphic badger who lives on the edge of the forest, and has lived in that forest since she was a child, she does not know common sense and lives a free-spirited life.[1]

Appearance[]

Sticks Sonic Channel

Sticks the Badger, from Sonic Channel.

Sticks' attire consists of a midriff-baring tube top and a skirt with an auburn rope belt, each made of worn-down gray fabric stitched together, and tan fur-skin boots, one which has a fur cuff and the other which has metal bands on it. As accessories, she wears a golden band on her right upper arm, a spiral bracelet on her left wrist and a necklace braided with seashells and a gold ring. In addition to her usual clothes, Sticks wore a pair of black bike shorts in addition to her regular clothes when at the Olympic Games.

Personality[]

Not much is known about this version of Sticks, but it is assumed that she has a similar personality of her Sonic Boom counterpart. Sticks is energetic, free-spirited, and primal. She has sharp animal instincts, is a fearsome combatant, a tenacious hunter, and will enter a feral frenzy when she is angry. Because of her isolated life, Sticks has become off-kilted, obtuse, mental and just plain nutty, and she thinks others are living in an alternate world different from the normal one, something that unnerves friends and enemies alike. While Sticks recognizes that she is a kook, she does not like having herself and her ideas written off as crazy by default, as she often turns out to be right.

Act:012 Hidden Leaf Justsu![]

Espio tries to go about his daily life while remaining invisible, as part of his training. However, it proves to be quite challenging later on. He is first sprayed by Cream's hose as she is watering her flowers. He is then almost hit by Amy's hammer. When Sticks asks her why she suddenly used it, Amy replies that she felt like something was there. Finally, Espio retreats to a high pole and rests there but does not see Tails incoming in his bi-plane. He is inevitably hit and Charmy is seen looking for the chameleon. Unknown to Charmy, Espio was laying down near him, injured.

Act:018 Fighting the Wild[]
Sticks in Sonic comic

Sticks the Badger, from Sonic Comic #18.

Sticks expresses her hatred for television, saying her reasons for this was that its "grating sounds crawled into her ears" and its light "pierced her eyes". She then yells for everyone to protect themselves the "malicious electromagnetic waves". Suddenly, an advertisement for cupcakes pops up on the television screen. Sticks drools over the sight of them but at the same time tries to ignore it as she believes the TV is trying to control her. Sticks eventually gives in and buys a cupcake for herself. She then remarks that television is scary and no matter how she thinks about it, it is a brainwashing device. Tails, however, replies that it was just her gluttony.

Special Stage[]

Sonic, along with every character that appeared in the series thus far, thanks all the readers for all the support given to Sonic Comic. Tails states that there were twenty-five comics in total, corresponding with Sonic's twenty-fifth anniversary and adds that the series was quite lively with all the character appearances. Knuckles asks if anybody saw his active role, much to Amy's annoyance. Amy then tries to say something to the readers regarding whether they enjoyed reading the comic until the group is attacked by Dr. Eggman, Orbot, Cubot and Metal Sonic. Silver manages to deflect many of the missiles fired while Eggman states that he would catch them all in one go, seeing as they were all gathered in one place. As most of the group prepare to fight Eggman, Sonic sighs at Eggman's persistence. He then joins the fight and tells the readers to look forward to the future with him.

Animation[]

Sonic Boom[]

Sticks from Sonic Boom

Sticks the Badger, from Sonic Boom.

Sticks the Badger originated from the Sonic Boom series, where she is one of the main characters. She is a wacky anthropomorphic jungle badger, the only descendant of Jebediah Badger, and a force of nature in every way. Since her childhood, she has lived and flourished alone in the wilderness and is therefore new to friends in general. She eventually formed a strong bond with Team Sonic and joined them as their wild card in their ongoing battles against Dr. Eggman.

Trivia[]

  • Sticks was mentioned at the end of Sonic Frontiers. This means another version of her Sonic Boom counterpart exists in the game universe.[2]
    • However, Sticks was not mentioned in the Japanese version of Sonic Frontiers.
    • Sticks' name-dropping was an addition by Frontiers writer Ian Flynn, as he wanted to use it as a way to introduce her as part of the mainline Sonic canon, and also test the boundaries of what SEGA would let him include in the game. Flynn has also claimed he cannot promise any further appearances of her in the mainline Sonic the Hedgehog series.[3]
    • Sticks was originally meant to appear in the first saga of the Sonic IDW comic series. She was supposed to be shown at the end of the Battle for Angel Island saga living on the island, but according to Ian Flynn, it was declined by SEGA.[4]
