Storm the Albatross (ストーム・ザ・アルバトロス Sutōmu za Arubatorosu?) is a fictional, 19-year-old anthropomorphic albatross from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He is the muscle of the Babylon Rogues, a talented and legendary band of thieves that has existed since ancient times, and is Jet the Hawk's right hand man. An imposing sight, Storm is a hulking albatross that possesses incredible physical strength, making him capable of destroying just about anything in his path.
In general, Storm is somewhat dim-witted and slow on the uptake, but makes up for it in raw power. He is Jet's most loyal follower, and believes his loyalty to him is greater than anyone else's. Because of this, he is always ready for an assignment from Jet. Despite being committed to his duties though, Storm has a quick temper, and his clumsiness constantly succeeds in embarrassing himself and his teammates. He also tends to stutter whenever he becomes excited or when he is distressed.
Storm was born into a clan of thieves known as the Babylon Rogues. He is a descendant of the Babylonians, an alien race that stranded on Earth in ancient times, where they became a legendary band of thieves. Eventually, however, the Babylonians incurred the wrath of the gods because of their crimes. As punishment, the Babylonians were scattered for all time and their home, Babylon Garden, were cast into the earth. The remaining Babylonians then became a collective clan of thieves, who would continue their legacy of thieving for generations as the Babylon Rogues, with Storm being one of the Babylonians' few latest descendants.
At some point in his life, Storm became a member of the Babylon Rogues, where he was joined by Jet the Hawk and Wave the Swallow. Together, the three of them formed the newest generation of Babylon Rogues and continued their clan's legacy of theft, with Storm serving as the team's brawn.
During his carrier as a member Babylon Rogues, Storm and his team engaged in a number of unknown criminal activities, and managed to build up an infamous reputation.
In Sonic Riders, Storm and Wave found Dr. Eggman arriving on their airship with a proposition for Jet. After surprising Jet by barging into his office to tell him the news, Storm noticed that Jet had the Key to Babylon Garden, which was said could reveal Babylon Garden and the valuable Treasure of Babylon within it which was left behind by their ancestors. Storm, however, refused to yet Wave touch it, suspecting that she would use it an experiment, and they began to argue. After being quiet by Jet, Storm and Wave told Jet about Eggman, only to continue arguing. When Eggman came in, he revealed to Storm and the others that the Key to Babylon Garden could reveal Babylon Garden and unlock the treasure within it if they collected the seven Chaos Emeralds, though he warned them that Sonic the Hedgehog would undoubtedly get in their way. Interested in finding their ancestors' treasure, Storm and the other agreed to work with Eggman.
As a part of Eggman's plan, the doctor hosted the EX World Grand Prix, where the contestants had to pay an entry free of one Chaos Emerald, and the winner getting to claim all seven. The plan was then to have Storm and his team win the World Grand Prix and claim the Emeralds. Traveling to Future City, Storm and his team stole a Chaos Emerald from a building to use as their entry free. As they were on a run from the police, Storm was knocked off his Type-S by Knuckles. However, Storm managed to catch a ride on Wave's Type-W, and he successfully escaped with his team and as well reclaimed his Type-S, despite Sonic trying to catch them on the Type-S.
With a Chaos Emerald in their possession, Storm and his team entered the EX World Grand Prix. After passing the first few rounds, Storm was walking through the Egg Factory when he suddenly bumped into Knuckles. Recognizing him from Future City, Storm wanted payback and got ready to fight Knuckles. When Knuckles got distracted when he hit an E-10000R, Storm laughed at Knuckles and tried to punch him, but hit the E-10000R instead, and he tried to apologize to the robot by blaming Knuckles. They then heard that the next race was about to start, and Storm and Knuckles decided to settle their dispute with the race. Storm lost the race, however, and was eliminated from the competition.
Returning to the Babylon Rogues' airship, Storm burst into Jet's office and apologized for losing to Knuckles. Storm then claimed that he lost because Knuckles used a special type of Extreme Gear, but Wave rebuked that, saying her Extreme Gears were the best and that it was Storm's skills that sucked, which shocked Storm. After being quieted by Jet, Storm heard from Jet that he suspected that Eggman was hiding something from them, and he ordered him to sneak into Eggman's base to find whatever the doctor could be hiding. Hearing that he better bring something back or not come back at all, Storm hurried out on his mission.
On his mission, Storm managed to get into the Ice Factory and got Eggman's diary, before managing to escape from a flock of E-10000Gs. Despite being late, Storm managed to met up with Jet and Wave outside Sand Ruins just before the EX World Grand Prix finals. Apologizing for being late, Storm presented the diary and they learned from it that the Treasure of Babylon was not a gem as Eggman had made them believe, but actually a piece of the Babylonians' advanced technology, which the doctor hoped to use for world domination. Storm was initially disappointed to hear that the treasure was not a gem, but then heard from Wave that the treasure could still be valuable. Storm and his team headed therefore afterwards to the stadium to finish the EX World Grand Prix.
After Jet won the finals (due to Wave cheating for him), Jet claimed and used the Chaos Emeralds with the Key to Babylon Garden to unearth Babylon Garden. Eggman then stole the Key to Babylon Garden and went to get the treasure for himself, promoting Storm and the others to chase after him. Arriving on Babylon Garden, Storm and Wave found themselves face-to-face with Knuckles and Tails, and Storm got ready fight Knuckles when suddenly a group of E-10000s attacked. Storm and the others then promptly made their escape from the robots.
Eventually, Storm and Wave found Jet as he was giving the Key to Babylon Garden back to Sonic after Sonic had returned it, because Jet lost a race to him. With Wave taking the key, she and Storm went to get the Treasure of Babylon, with Jet reluctantly following suit. Using the Key to Babylon Garden, Storm, Jet and Wave entered Babylon Garden, but accidently awoke the Babylon Guardian in the process.
With the timely arrival of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, Storm and the others were able to defeat the Babylon Guardian, and they found the Treasure of Babylon, which they discovered was a Magic Carpet, much to the disappointment of Eggman, who just arrived to steal it. With the ordeal over, Storm and the rest of the Babylon Rogues took their leave from Sonic and his friends until they would meet again.
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity
In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, a few months after the EX World Grand Prix, Storm and his team were on a treasure hunt to Gigan Rocks to find an Ark of the Cosmos, an engine unit for Babylon Garden. After waiting for Jet to disable the bobby trap to protect the Ark of the Cosmos, Storm watched eagerly as Jet carefully claimed the relic. Storm then noticed that Wave had closed her eyes and folding her hands, and heard that she was wishing on a shooting star. Storm laughed at her act, finding it childish, and expected Jet to agree with him, but saw that he was also wishing on the shooting star. When another shooting star then crashed down on Earth, Storm nervously began to wish as well when the tremors created from the shooting star's impact re-activated the ruins' trap, releasing some boulders. Before they could get crushed by the boulders though, Storm and the others were saved when Jet used the Ark of the Cosmos, which could manipulate gravity, to stop the boulders and make themselves fly. With Jet using the Ark of the Cosmos, Storm and his team managed to escape the ruins safely.
Back on the Babylon Rogues' airship, Storm found a news report saying that a SCR-GP stole another Ark of the Cosmos from the Megalo City Museum. Hurrying to Jet's office, Storm showed Jet the news report. Storm was then order by Jet, who wished to collect all five existing Arks of the Cosmos, to take them to Megalo Station, and Storm complied.
Arriving in Monopole, Storm and Wave followed Jet into a dome in Botanical Kingdom where Jet had knocked the robot holding the Ark of the Cosmos into. Inside the dome, Storm noticed that Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Amy were there as well, and that they had the Ark of the Cosmos they were looking for. Overhearing the group's conversation about MeteorTech, Storm and Wave met up with Jet and went ahead of Sonic and the others to MeteorTech to gather information.
Arriving at Meteor Tech, the Babylon Rogues were discovered by security robots, but Storm helped repel them when Jet used his Ark of the Cosmos. Appearing before Sonic and his friends, Storm told Knuckles that they were here to settle the score from last time. As more robots then showed up, promoting Sonic and his friends to leave and Jet and Wave to chase after them, Storm stayed behind and kept Amy from leaving as well so that he could take her Ark of the Cosmos. In response, Storm was hit by Amy with her Piko Piko Hammer, staggering him slightly and allowing Amy to get away, but Storm chased after her in hot pursuit.
Storm followed Amy through MeteorTech Sparkworks to Aquatic Capital, where he at this point started to become exhausted from the chase, before being knocked out from being hit in the face by Amy's Ark of the Cosmos when she surrendered it to him. As he came to, Storm was scolded by Amy for separating her from Sonic and was ordered to find a way out of there, which Storm grudgingly agreed to. On their way though, Storm and Amy were met by SCR-HD, who suddenly blew up after scanning Storm's Ark of the Cosmos. Looking through the robot, Storm found another Ark of the Cosmos, and joyfully ran off to give the two he had obtained to Jet.
After getting back to the Babylon Rogues' airship, Storm found Jet and gave him his two Arks of the Cosmos, and was glad to see that Jet was pleased. Storm then heard Wave's description of an ancient Babylonian text about a "lightless black" tied to the Arks of the Cosmos, but discovered afterwards that the two Arks of the Cosmos that he brought back had been stolen by Dr. Eggman, who planned to use them to take control of the world's robots and conquer the world. Wasting no time, the Babylon Rogues followed the scientist.
Arriving at the Crimson Tower, Storm and his team met Sonic and his friends, and Storm told them about Eggman's theft. To Storm's shock, Jet declared that whoever got to Eggman first, got all the Arks of the Cosmos. With little choice, Storm and his team raced against Sonic and his friends into Crimson Town.
At the end of the race, which ended in a tie, Eggman was stopped and the robot rampage caused by the Arks of the Cosmos came to an end. After Babylon Garden had revealed itself due to all Arks of the Cosmos being present, and Sonic willingly handed over his Arks of the Cosmos, Storm saw SCR-HD appear, who stole all the Arks of the Cosmos and took them to Babylon Garden. This resulted in Babylon Garden transforming into Astral Babylon and to form a black hole, the "lightless black", that threatened to consume the planet. As Sonic and his friends went to stop the black hole by disconnecting Babylon Garden's engine, Storm and his team followed them to assist in stopping this catastrophe. There, they faced Master Core: ABIS, who had merged with the black hole. However, by using its own power against it, Storm and the others stopped Master Core: ABIS and saved the world.
With the world returning to peace, Astral Babylon back into space and his team content with the events, Storm took his leave with his team.
Sonic Free Riders
In Sonic Free Riders, Storm and the rest of the Babylon Rogues entered the newest World Grand Prix, which was once again hosted by Dr. Eggman (under the alias as King Doc) as Team Babylon, with Storm and the others only joining to seek fame. When Omochao interviewed the team, Storm backed up Jet by saying that Jet was always at the top of his game.
For their first race, Team Babylon went up against Team Dark. After hearing Team Dark trash-talk about Team Babylon, Storm promised to smash them for talking down to Jet. After their first race´and victory, Storm complemented E-10000B, but got annoyed when he received no response and his praise fell on deaf ears. As E-10000B then said that it was a robot and not a machine, Storm took it as a mockery of him, and got angry at it.
Eventually, Storm and his team defeated Team Dark, and advanced to the next round where they faced Team Rose. After hearing Vector insisting on getting the prize money, Storm laughed at him for being so poor that he had to race to make ends meet. As his team secured one victory after another against Team Rose, Storm told his opponents that it was obvious that they would lose.
With the final race against their opponents, Team Babylon defeated Team Rose and advanced to the finals where they met Team Heroes. After Team Heroes had commented, Storm proclaimed that he would teach Knuckles some manners. As Team Babylon achieved a series of victories, Storm helped Wave cheat by sabotaging Team Heroes' Extreme Gear. After Jet defeated Sonic in the final race, and Jet accused Wave for messing with Sonic's Extreme Gear after hearing that Sonic had mechanical issues, Storm tried to pretend that he knew nothing about either. Regardless, Jet got a rematch with Sonic and won, making Team Babylon the winners, and Storm cheered at their victory. When Knuckles then promised that things would be different next time, Storm told him that he would like a challenge like that.
Over the course of the World Grand Prix, Team Babylon received their own respectable number of losses, with Storm initially acting high and mighty before his opponents and mocking them, only to get angry or upset about their losses. At the end of the tournament, all teams had an equal amount of victories and losses, and Storm and the other teams came to the awards ceremony to collect their prize. However, Eggman (as King Doc) made them have a final race against his ultimate Gear-Jockey robot.
After beating the robot, Storm demanded to see the cash prize, but then Eggman dropped his disguise and revealed that he used the World Grand Prix to get the riders' racing data with his E-10000 robots to create the ultimate Extreme Gear which he could use for his own agenda. Eggman then challenged Storm and the others to a race, but lost, and Storm, after backing Jet up on his mockery of Eggman, insisted that they grabbed the racing data. Metal Sonic then revealed himself as the one controlling E-10000B and passing fake data to Eggman, while taking the real data himself in an effort to beat Sonic in Extreme Gear riding.
Storm and the others following watched as Metal Sonic challenged Sonic to a race, in which Sonic defeated his robot copy. Afterwards, as the World Grand Prix came to a close and having learned that there never were a prize, Storm apologized to Jet for not getting anything out of it.
Other Game Appearances
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Series
Though he was not seen himself, a costume of him is seen. This costume makes the Mii's stats alter like all other costumes (excluding the Mario costume since both stats are the same). This costume can be bought using 10 blank cards.
One of Storm's most defining traits is his lack of intelligence. Not the sharpest tool in the shed, Storm is somewhat dim-witted and can be forgetful, easily mislead, and can trip over even the simples of words. He also gets happy and upset in a childish manner quite fast, hinting his simple mindset. However, what Storm lacks in smarts, he makes up for in raw power.
When confronting others, Storm takes on a rough and tough attitude by expressing his strength or by making threats of payback and/or beating up the people in question, in an effort to daunt them. Storm likewise has a quick temper, easily getting angry when provoked or when he thinks that he has been insulted. When he is angry, Storm becomes a destructive force. He is also always quick to start a fight with others without a second thought, always urging his opponent to start a brawl with him right on the spot, which he is equally interested in to participate in. He is also rather impatient, as he hates to wait.
Despite his tough exterior, whenever Storm gets excited, flustered or ill at ease, he tends to stutter, sometimes become gradually speechless, and will drop whatever façade of toughness he may have at that point, and acts like a bumbling and discouraged individual that easily succumb to the orders of others. He is also rather clumsy, always barging into Jet's office, accidently bringing down stuff on the walls, and tripping on his own Extreme Gear.
Like the other members of the Babylon Rogues, Storm is a rather rude person, finding great fun in mocking and laughing at other people, though he rarely throws insults. Regardless, Storm is by far the most sympathetic of the Babylon Rogues, always being quick to apologize to those that he hurts unintentionally, physically or emotionally, such as when he apologized to a E-10000R for punching it, and when he apologized to Amy for chasing her.
Storm is extremely loyal to Jet, who he almost always refers to as "boss". He constantly seeks to please Jet, either going on his assignments without hesitation or helping him in any way he can. Storm will also always support Jet or back him up, and as well insist that Jet never made any mistakes and that it was others' fault. In line with his, Storm gets very happy when he is praised by Jet, and apologizes deeply with great remorse if he fails a mission or somehow insults Jet's pride or dignity.
Storm has a great deal of greedy love for money and treasure, and his primary motivation is to acquire as much wealth as possible, which was the sole reason he and the others on his team willingly competed in the World Grand Prix in Sonic Riders and Sonic Free Riders.
Powers and Abilities
As the muscle of the Babylon Rogues, Storm possesses extraordinarily amounts of raw superhuman strength, reaching the point where Storm is considered a force of nature. His strength is so high that the force created from when he claps his hands together can releases gusts of winds powerful enough to blow opponents off their footing and as well inflict damage, and he can as well knock entire cars away and smash nearly anything in his path with a single punch.
On his feet, Storm is noted to lack speed, and is very slow and sluggish with his movements. However, like most other characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Storm is still able to run at amazing speeds. As seen in Sonic Riders, Storm is able to run at high speeds on foot, reaching at least 100 mph.
Storm also has a high degree of physical endurance, being able to take a direct from Amy with her Piko Piko Hammer and only be slightly disorientated from it, and withstand getting hit by a direct jab from Knuckles the Echidna.
Extreme Gear Skills
As a member of the Babylon Rouges, Storm is a highly adept Extreme Gear rider, and is presumably one of the best Extreme Gear riders in the world, having been acknowledged as a legendary wind master, though his clumsiness tends to hold him back.
When riding on an Extreme Gear, Storm can move at high speeds and still remain in control of his movement, perform both complex and impressive tricks and body movements while in mid-air, and as well engage in hand-to-hand combat with other Extreme Gear riders while riding his own Extreme Gear.
Aside from his strength and Extreme Gear skills, Storm is a talented and professional thief. Having pulled off many successful heists and escaped captured from the authorities, Storm is a seasoned thief and talented with slight of hand. As a testament to his thieving skills, Storm was able to single-handedly infiltrate Eggman's base, steal the doctor's private diary and as well escape capture from a horde of robots.
Storm's main choice of equipment is his Type-S Extreme Gear. The Type-S is a Board type power-based Extreme Gear, constructed by Wave, which is meant for durable and destructive Extreme Gear riding. Over time, the Type-S has been redesigned to have a wider base to support Storm's bulk, and a maximum hover output to support Storm's weight.
Appearance in Other Media
In the Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog comic books and spin-offs, Storm was a member of the Battle Bird Armada, but was put in brig for beating up a superior officer. He was eventually freed by Jet the Hawk, alongside Wave the Swallow and together they formed the Babylon Rogues and intended to obtain glory by finding the fabled Babylon Garden before the Battle Bird Armada.
After deflecting from the Battle Bird Armada, Storm and his team were employed by Dr. Eggman to defeat Sonic the Hedgehog, but failed. Following that, Storm and his team attempted to steal one of the Sol Emeralds when it showed up on Mobius, but were forced to retreat by Wave. Eventually, Storm and his team discovered the means of finding Babylon Garden, but were forced to rejoin the Battle Bird Armada. After finding Babylon Garden, Storm and his allies were stopped in their efforts by Sonic, who destroyed Babylon Garden.
Storm greatly respects his leader, Jet and refers to him as "Boss". He will do anything to serve him and will always try to accomplish any mission given by him. In the Sonic Channel bio, it is mentioned that Jet is one of his favorite things.
The two seem to get into small arguments, in Sonic Riders. In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, Storm was making fun of Wave as she was wishing upon a shooting star as he thought that it was childish to think that a shooting star can grant a wish. In Sonic Free Riders, Wave insulted Storm's skills in Extreme Gear, this disheartened Storm, and after that, the two have not talked to each other.
When Storm and Knuckles met, Knuckles punched Storm really hard, which caused Storm to fall from his board. Apparently, this was because Storm was stealing at the time. Ever since then, the two have been rivaled for who's a stronger man. When Storm lost against Knuckles in the World Grand Prix, he falsely accused him of having cheated. In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity the two showed a spark of anger when they saw each other again. Knuckles thinks of him as a "meathead" and Storm wants to settle the score causing great tension between the two.
