Super Shadow is the transformed state of Shadow the Hedgehog when he harnesses the power of the 7 Chaos Emeralds. In this form, all his powers and abilities are enhanced up to their full limit. Super Shadow made his first appearance in Sonic Adventure 2, and just like Super Sonic, he requires rings in order to stay in this form, otherwise he will power down to normal.

Super Shadow can run faster than before, fly, and is nearly invincible. Super Shadow does not need to use a Chaos Emerald to perform Chaos Control and warp through time, because the power of the Emeralds appears to have been transferred into him, much as with Super Sonic. Super Shadow's fur is lemon-cream but his white chest fur retains its color, as do his red body marks. His moves are augmented greatly while in this transformed state.

Moreover, in Shadow the Hedgehog, more of Super Shadow's powers are revealed and can be used. For instance, Super Shadow can now use Air Dash, and can perform Chaos Spear.

Since Super Shadow's arrival in Sonic Adventure 2, found in the last story, fans of Sonic and Shadow started using the name Hyper Shadow instead of the accurate name, Super Shadow. Fans also sometimes get the body of Super Shadow mixed up, calling it 'Silver'. However, Super Shadow's skin appears that way because of the engine used to render the graphics of Sonic Adventure 2.

• During the Final Battle in SA2, it is implied with in-battle quotes that Shadow struggles more than Sonic in maintaining his Super form. This could be due to a lack of experience with the transformation (whereas Sonic has used it many times), or that he was exerting himself more in the battle, which can be validated by the loss of his ring bracelets.
• Like Sonic, only Shadow's main color changes when he goes into his super form. The blue on Sonic changes, and the black on Shadow changes.
• Shadow has the only Super Form that doesn't physically change from his normal form, because only his black color is changed.
• Super Shadow also appears in Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing .
