Swim[1] (泳ぎ Oyogi?) is a move that appears in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. It is a special movement technique used by the playable characters in Hunting Stages which lets them move with greater ease underwater.

Description

When performing Swim, the users move around underwater using butterfly kicks with their arms held into their sides, although some arm strokes are occasionally used. In gameplay, Swim enables the player to move swiftly around anywhere inside a body of water, from up to down and in any other direction, unlike in other cases where the player automatically sinks to the bottom and can only walk sluggishly around on the waterbed or make enhanced jumps. This is useful for reaching different objects hidden underwater.

To use Swim in gameplay, the player must go into a water pool. While underwater, the player has to press DreamcastB/SNNBGAMECUBEDISCO to dive and DreamcastA/A Button GameCube v2 to surface, and use the control stick to move around. When remaining stationary underwater, however, the playable character will slowly surface.

Excluding Chaos, the playable characters can only use Swim underwater for a limited time before they start to run out of air and then lose a life. In Knuckles' case, this limitation can be bypassed by obtaining the Air Necklace.
