I have one theory (and just a fan-theory so not for the article) that the rings spin the other way on the opposite pole of the world. Wherever European origin story or that the rings hold any connections with Chaos Emeralds, I believed that the energy that they are charged with have incredibly powered the Diamagnetism of the rings. Gold is a diamagnetic metal which, unlike magnetic metals, pushes away than attracts. It's hard to explain it all, but diamagnetism is usually weak with experemints on making dimples in water or levitate certain earth materials. My theory is that Chaos energy has effected the diamagnetism properties of gold that the rings are made from which causes the rings themselves to levitate as well as "hang" on to the planets polarity to stabalise them (I think), so it maybe possible that on the lower side of the planet, the rings spin the other way. I will have to check the next time I play Sonic Unleashed, though keep in mind the planet was at up-most catastrophy at the time.

In certain comics and cartoons it says that rings are created from Chaos energy, that these Power Rings are not made from gold but that chaos energy in a solid state takes the form of yellow shiny metal rings. I don't buy this theory, even if Chaos energy being the most unpredictable power in all series. What I do consider is that there maybe a "multiplying process" somewhere and my bet is in the Special Zone, seeing that is the usual location of the Chaos Emeralds it is probably here "chaos" has more of an unpredictable effect so this is where the rings phenomenon occure. Rings probably return to the Special Zone once there energy is depleted (which goes into protection or sustaining super forms), but they can be stable when surrounded by other rings. This explains why:

  • Rings are usually found in patterns.
  • Why they dissapear when lost, they return to the Special Zone.

These explanations on how rings return to the Special Zone may absolutely debunk the theory on the rings multiplication, in that there is a chance Sonic has collected every ring one time or another, just at one point that ring returns to the Special Zone and then randomly returns to Earth with fellow rings fixed onto the Earths magnetism. However if this was the case, they would make terrible form of currency unless the businessman happens to be attacked to disperse the power of his savings.

This is all just a theory though.--Mystic Monkey sez 05:44, March 15, 2010 (UTC)

Sonic Generations (3DS)[]

When I see footage, it is without a red signal at the zero meaning you have no rings. I'm keen on getting that and it will easily cause confusion. That HUD should be like the Console games.

Recent games[]

"In more recent games, usually only 20 rings are now lost"

Wrong. In Sonic Unleashed (PS3\X360), Sonic loses 50% of his rings when hit (if he has 40 or more). About Sonic Generations:

"In Sonic Generations, Classic Sonic will lose all his rings but Modern Sonic will only lose 20 rings.
This is because, in the Genesis Era where Classic Sonic comes from, the player would lose all their rings. Modern Sonic comes from the Modern Era, where the player now only loses 20 or half of their rings."

Also wrong. In Sonic Generations (PS3\X360\PC) both Sonics lose 80% of rings when hit (if Sonic has has 20 or more).

Then change the information to match your findings. Good job, btw.
