New page

I'm trying to create a page for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, but it won't let me. I got a reason why it should have it's own article instead of the Sonic 3 section in the Sonic & Knuckles article. Sonic & Scrab Master

What do you mean it won't let you? -- Supermorff 11:58, April 2, 2010 (UTC)

When I tried to make the article "Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles", it told me that the page already exists, when I cliked on the link, it sent me to the Sonic 3 section of Sonic & Knuckles. Sonic & Scrab Master

Ah, I see. It exists as a redirect. So when you go to the page, scroll to the very top, and just below the page title will be a small link saying 'Redirected from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles'. Click on that link, and you will be able to edit the redirect. -- Supermorff 08:54, April 3, 2010 (UTC)

I think you should do it. I'm afraid I might do something wrong. You do it, and I'll create the article. Sonic & Scrab Master

Done. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. -- Supermorff 09:51, April 4, 2010 (UTC)
2 things. 1. The link STILL redirects you to it. 2. In Sonic 3 and Knuckles, in the sound test, if you go to 28 and listen to it, it is the Blue Sphere game's menu music IN THE SOUND TEST OF SONIC 3 AND KNUCKLES!!! MegaMCAlly (talk) 14:42, July 17, 2013 (UTC)
Regarding the first point, the page was separated 3 years ago but has been re-merged since. Regarding the second point, feel free to add it as trivia. -- Supermorff (talk) 07:34, July 20, 2013 (UTC)

I played with Knuckles (Sonic Classic Collecton DS verson of the game) once at Mushroom Hill boss and died 2 times, Robotnik showed up insted of Egg Robo is this the case in the original Sonic 3 or not if it is it should be in trivia Dr. Eggman rox 2 YO! PIE! GOOD!

Knuckles' storyline

On Sonic 4:Episode I website (English, I'm not sure about the Japanese one. I'll check later on) they confirm that Knuckles' story did take place during Sonic's story in S&K! -- Hitsuji Mamoru 22:21, March 1, 2012 (UTC)

Sega might have confirmed that Knuckles' story took place during Sonic's but there is evidence within Sonic & Knuckles/Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles that shows that his story could've taken place after Sonic's. The first thing that backs this up is the dissapearence of the Death Egg in Launch Base's background. And also the dissapearence of the Death Egg at the top of Hidden Palace's background. Another thing is with Knuckle's version of Sky Sanctuary, with the fact it's shorter than Sonic's. This could be due to the fact when Sonic left Sky Sanctuary, most of it was destroyed in an explosion. There is other minor things that show that Knuckles' story could've take place aftet Sonic's, like in Sandopolis Zone Act 2 where Sonic opens the capsule containing the Hyudoro ghosts, while in Knuckles' playthough of that act, it's already been opened. As much as I love this game, it takes me 3-7 lives to get past Flying Battery zone.

More English boss titles

It never sat well with me that the Sonic 3 portion of the game has boss titles from an English source while the Sonic & Knuckles half remained with a Japanese source, but I found a remedy. Back in the day, Sega of America would mail specific Master System and Genesis game guides to callers of their hotline. They range from a basic outline of tips to full-fledged walkthroughs. A lot of these "hint sheets" or "cheat sheets" (as they came to be called) are lost, but I stumbled upon a transcription of the Sonic & Knuckles one here. The first thing you'll notice is how informal it is, and that's because a lot of these were typed up printed as standard documents with occasional screenshots. At the bottom, you'll see a plug for the 32X game "Sonic Chaotic" (the reason this particular one was preserved, but that's another story). How official is this guide? Well, there's a Sega of America copyright for one thing, and the author is one Black Eyes, an alias of Clint Dyer -- whose name is permanently credited in the manuals of Sonic The Hedgehog 3 ("Screen Shots"), Sonic & Knuckles ("Special Acknowledgments"), and Knuckles' Chaotix ("Special Thanks"). I'd say it comes from fairly high up. Interestingly, it's even dated earlier than the Japanese Sonic Jam Official Guide (where the current names apparently come from), and includes what may be the first reference to Earth. Here are the names:

  • Hei Hou → Paul Logine
  • Jet Mobile → Dr. Robotnik’s Getaway Pod
  • Gapsule → Spike
  • Barrier Eggman → Laser Eye
  • Hang Mobile → Monkey Smoke
  • Guardian → Sand Mummy
  • Egg Golem → Robophinx
  • Heat Arms → Handit 2YA
  • Hot Mobile → Lava Marine
  • Mecha Sonic → Robotic Sonic
  • Mecha Sonic's Super State → Super Emerald Powered Robotic Sonic
  • Red Eye → Lazer - the one-eyed Bandit
  • Death Ball → Gravitator
  • Kyodai Eggman Robo → Dr. Robotnik’s Emerald-Powered Goliath Space Suit

+Unnamed Doomsday Zone bosses:

  • Mid-Boss: Robotnik’s Missile Commander
  • Last Boss: Robotnik’s Last Chance

It has a few names for things that aren't named: the Grabber-like machine that picks you up in Flying Battery is called a Carry Spider, and the Sonic & Knuckles Tunnelbot (previously given the conjectural name Lava drill) is the Robotnik Drill. There are a few oddities, though. I think the Lazer boss' name can be shortened since the rest seems like a jokey description (incidentally, it's female). Also, since Robotic Sonic was recently affirmed as Mecha Sonic in Sonic Dimensions (as opposed to Robo Sonic), it should remain as-is, but probably just remove the conjectural tag for the Super State (although "Super Emerald Powered" is a bit of a misnomer, but I don't believe it was intentionally referring to the Super Emeralds since that's only Lock-on content and it's properly Master Emerald elsewhere)... Shall we go through with these changes as well? SaucieX (talk) 14:25, April 2, 2017 (UTC)

If this transcription is indeed official, then there is nothing to say about it. However, it is IMPORTANT that this source is indeed from Sega. If you can indeed verify that this sheet was given out by an official and is not just something anyone could have posted and then faked their name by writing "Black Eyes" on it. However, it is important that none of this is rushed.Ultrasonic9000 (talk) 14:35, April 2, 2017 (UTC)

Is there a way to easily verify whether or not this transcript is the real deal?

The transcript is referred to in this article as a starting point of an investigative trail which potentially links said Sega employee's involvement with the release of Sonic Crackers (this claim has supposedly since been denied by drx, though the connections still at least raise an eyebrow). Nintendo Player is sort of like the Lost Levels or Unseen64 websites in that they aim to snag and preserve rare/exclusive info mostly related to unreleased video games. Their research is known for their authenticity, so I don't imagine it would use a deliberately faked or misrepresented resource. There was a discussion thread about it on ASSEMblergames, but that website is unfortunately down right now. SaucieX (talk) 16:51, April 2, 2017 (UTC)

I suppose we can't simply just dismiss the possibility of the transcript's authenticity, even if "drx" has supposedly denied the claim.
