This page has be deleted repeatedly because Toad has never been playable with Sonic. He has only been a referee. However, there is this special case about Mega Man, making me unsure whether to mark this page for deletion or not. SeanWheeler (talk) 22:41, April 12, 2013 (UTC)

You've marked it anyway, I see. Let me state my opinion on the Toad page this way. There are some pages on this wiki that we definitely DO need, that is, every page in existence. And there are some pages that we definitely DO NOT need, that is, spam pages and pages about insignificant bits of scenery. However, there are some pages, like this one, that lie in between the two. It seems necessary to have Toad on the wiki because he's been in enough games, but it also seems unnecessary because you never play as him. In such cases where these pages exist, I really don't care if it stays. THE REFLEX dancing on the valentine 14:39, April 16, 2013 (UTC)

SeanWheeler, our policy on non-Sonic pages is quite strict...in fact, too strict, because currently it does not allow for any Mega Man pages, and a well-written rule should not include any exceptions. I say we wait until the non-Sonic pages rule is rewritten until deciding the fate of this page. Until then, I oppose the deletion. Twinkle Snow Unleash Christmas 201314:44, April 16, 2013 (UTC)

Seriously, this page doesn't hurt the wiki in anyway and someone obviously put a lot of effort into it. It is a solid and interesting article. Plus Toad plays a major role in the story modes in the 2nd and third handheld Olympics, he's not like Big the Cat who just stands there and does nothing in the whole Olympic games series. I just found a way this page can potentially hurt the wiki. You know how we're going to cover the Smash Bros. veterans now? Well the Toad page is showing an example of a Nintendo character unplayable being allowed. The bosses of Mario and Sonic have made two appearances (a boss can be considered a major role), and not to mention there are other Mario referees (Shy Guy and Lakitu). And with Super Smash Bros., the Nintendog was an assist trophy in Brawl and a stage background in the 3DS game. I don't want the Nintendog here. And not to mention all of those Pokémon from those Poké Balls. We would have too many Pokémon. And the Villager was in Smashville and was a trophy. I'd prefer to wait for Sonic to make a third Smash Bros. appearance before adding the Villager. I know the Archie Worlds Collide series made us add unplayable Mega Man characters, but that's other media. The old two playable appearance rule will keep non-Sonic characters in check. I'm not changing my mind about the Smash Bros. characters. At least with the old playable rule, Super Smash Bros. would give us under 30 characters, but if any characters with two appearances with Sonic can get an article playable or not, we'd be overflowing with Nintendo information. Sorry Toad fans, this won't work well with the Smash Bros. coverage. I want the Smash Bros. characters, but I don't want too much Nintendo on a Sega wiki. You raise an interesting point, and it might be worth starting a new site discussion to clarify the rules. -- Supermorff (talk) 20:04, October 5, 2013 (UTC)

Does it bother anyone else that Toad is the only Nintendo unplayable character we have?[]

Now, I don't hate Toad, but I don't think he deserves a place on Sonic News Network. First of all, I liked the old rule of two playable appearances. It helped determine what characters should be here or not. Secondly, he wasn't playable at all, or even a major character. He was just a referee. His role could be filled out by Cream the Rabbit as he was with her a lot. Thirdly, the existence of this page interferes with my Super Smash Bros. characters I write about in my userspace. Why? Because Toad having a page gives more crossover characters the privilege of having an article playable or not. Characters like Lakitu, King Boo, Big Bullet Bill, Shy Guy, Piranha Plant and Dry Bowser can have pages now while Toad is on this wiki. They've made two appearances with Sonic (although unplayable). And if any Nintendo character could have a article playable or not, when we start covering Super Smash Bros. after the Wii U/3DS game comes out, we would end up with way too many Nintendo characters. I mean, there are Assist Trophies returning, and some characters that appeared as trophies or stickers will appear. I would rather have the thirty veterans over Toad or any other unplayable Nintendo character. And for Mega Man, since he starred in a crossover with Sonic in a comic series, Mega Man's deletion wouldn't seem fair. He was a main character with Sonic. Unplayability is excusable for Mega Man because his crossover with Sonic was in a comic book, which is different from video games. If Worlds Collide became a video game, than Mega Man would definitely be playable, and he will be playable in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U. When we voted on the rule to whether or not change the rule so that World's Collide could have coverage here, we didn't need to remove the playable requirement for crossover games. We could have just kept the playable requirement for games while just have a major character appearance requirement for other media. SeanWheeler (talk) 01:25, March 22, 2014 (UTC)

If someone doesn't respond by Saturday, I'm marking this article for deletion. SeanWheeler (talk) 01:26, April 3, 2014 (UTC)
I think the best way to determine whether the article is problematic or not is if you can find any other problems with the article besides him not being a playable character. Problems such as info lacking citation or not enough relevant info to make an article. Antiyonder (talk) 02:03, April 3, 2014 (UTC)
Well, it doesn't have any citation. And how often in the story is he not with Cream? If he's with Cream a lot, it can almost be filled out on Cream's page. Or maybe I should watch a walkthrough on the DS version to see how relevant he is. SeanWheeler (talk) 04:22, April 3, 2014 (UTC)

None of Toad's appearances with Sonic in the Olympic Games crossovers were technically minor, if you count the DS games. He's heavily involved in plot, which I consider a major appearance with Sonic. The playable point does stand, but he doesn't need to be playable. Also, we're not debating the rules, only whether Toad fits inside the scope of the non-Sonic character rule... which he does. Arguments like "other characters should be here if Toad is here" are irrelevant. -- Burny!~ your friendly neighborhood pyrosaur 13:06, April 4, 2014 (UTC)

Well, as long as he doesn't permit other non-playable Mario characters, I guess he's okay. SeanWheeler (talk) 13:53, April 4, 2014 (UTC)
