This is the transcript of the Sonic X episode, "The Beginning of the End".

[A shot of Sonic running is shown.]
Scarlet: [As Narrator] Freedom fever is spreading wild as fans of Sonic the Hedgehog embrace the new Freedom Movement, adopting the carefree lifestyle of their hero.
[Sonic makes the covers of various magazines as people chant "Freedom!".]
Scarlet: [As Narrator] It seems like the entire planet is caught up in the craze!
[A shot of two people wearing Sonic-themed clothes is shown before cutting to Sonic running again.]
Scarlet: [As Narrator] The International Track and Field Association reports that runners around the world are setting new records every day.

[Scene: A racetrack]

[Chris is running a race. He crosses the finish line in first place.]
Judge: Wow! Eight seconds flat!
Chris: [Fist-pumps] Haha! Yeah!

[The opening theme plays]

[Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Outside]

[Decoe is clipping the hedges, and Bocoe is sweeping the trimmings.]
Bocoe: I love working for the Thorndyke family. Now the only thing we have to attack is crabgrass!
Decoe: Plus we get weekends off! Eggman never gave us free time except the time he made us work for free.
[Chris arrives. He is wearing his backpack.]
Chris: Hey, how's it going, you guys?
Decoe: Hello, Christopher!
Bocoe: Welcome home!
Decoe: Your parents just arrived back here a few minutes ago.
Chris: Great! Where are they?
Decoe: In the backyard. They are extremely eager to see you!
Chris: Thanks, guys!
[He runs inside.]
Bocoe: What a nice kid.
Decoe: It is hard to believe that a few days ago we were trying to destroy him.
Bocoe: I guess we should get back to work.
Decoe: Right! We still have to fill in that ditch we dug earlier.
[Tanaka, who is walking nearby, slips. Meanwhile, Eggman serves Bokkun what appears to be a putrid purple liquid inside a small hollow tree. Bokkun is wearing a red T-shirt that says “Freedom” on the front.]
Dr. Eggman: Bon appetit!
Bokkun: A tree stump? I can't eat wood for lunch! What do I look like, a termite?
Dr. Eggman: Well, it's the only food we have. But if you don't like it, we can skip to the mud pie I made for dessert.
[He flips a few more trees in a frying pan before walking away.]
Bokkun: I hope Decoe and Bocoe ask for their jobs back. Their food didn't tastes good, but they never served me lumber for lunch!
Dr. Eggman: Forget it. I wouldn't take those two turncoats back if they came crawling to me on their gear boxes.
[Meanwhile, Nelson and Lindsey, who are also wearing Freedom shirts, are grilling. Ella, Chris, Amy, and Cream are setting the tables. Chuck is stirring soup. Ella walks over as Nelson hold up some slightly burnt meat.]
Ella: Oh, uh, no thank you, sir. There might not be enough to go around.
Lindsey: Nonsense, Ella. We have more than enough.
Ella: That's... great.
Nelson: I know you love good food, so I expect to see you back for seconds.
[Nelson serves Ella some of the meat, and she cringes a little.]
Nelson: When I heard all my employee were taking time off because of this freedom fad, I thought I'd take a little free time too.
Ella: Christopher is thrilled that you'll be spending more time here, and so am I.
Lindsey: I never realized what a burden stardom is until I joined the freedom movement.
Lindsey and Nelson: Go Freedom!
Lindsey: Alright!
Nelson: My shish kebabs are done, so get ready, gang! They're gonna knock you out!
Chuck: I just hope the medics will be able to revive us.
[Chris, Amy, and Cream giggle. Tanaka walks in. He too is wearing a freedom shirt underneath his vest.]
Tanaka: Professor Thorndyke. The President is on the telephone for you.
Chuck: Thank you.
[He gets up and heads for the phone.]

[Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Living room]

Chuck: [On phone] What's that? ... You're giving the go-ahead to Project Homebound? ... I'll need some time to prepare. ... Yes, sir. Thank you, sir.
[With a sad expression, he hands up and sits on the couch in silence.]

[Scene Change]

[Sam Speed is chasing another speeder.]
Sam: Some of these freedom freaks think they've got the right to break the speed limit. Every day, some joker blasts down the highway to challenge the S-Team. There's only one racer who outraces me.
[He has a flashback of when Sonic ran past him at the speed of sound.]
Sam: [Flashback] A sonic boom? He's moving faster than the speed of sound!
[The flashback ends.]
Sam: I never imagined a hotshot hedgehog and I would become buddies.
[He looks back up at his target.]
Sam: Sonic's the only real competition I've got. This clown doesn't even know what speeding means! [Over loudspeaker] Pull over, pal! Don't make more trouble for yourself; it's not worth it.
Speeder:He ain't catchin' me.
[He floors the gas and drives faster. The chase continues. The speeder adjusts his rearview mirror, which causes him to lose control of the car.]
Sam: Slow down!
[The speeder panics as he sees a sharp turn in the road. He breaks through the safety barrier, and his car falls. Sam stops his car and gets out.]
Sam: Oh, great...
[Sam runs to the edge of the road, but there is nothing he can do. Suddenly Sonic shows up and quickly frees the speeder from the car right before it smashes front-first with the ground and explodes Sonic lands behind Sam and places the speeder down.]
Sam: Sonic!
Sonic: Hey, Sam. How are things on the highway?
[Sam removes his helmet.]
Sam: Same stuff. I'm still showin' these showoffs who rules the road. I was about to go on my coffee break, but now that you're here...
[Sam runs back to his car, and Sonic and Sam take off.]
Speeder: Hey, what am I supposed to do, crawl home?
Sonic: You ready to race?
Sam: You bet! Just let me shift into Sonic Mode and I'm good to go!
[Sam activates his secret fuel tank. He takes off at a blazing speed; however, Sonic not only catches up, but he also passes him.]
Sam: [To himself] He's getting faster...
[He leaps off the road and over the city, admiring its beauty just as he did when he first arrived on Earth.]

[Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Chris' room, night]

[Chris is sitting at his desk and looking up at the moon - the Egg Moon. A writing pad is in front of him.]
Chris: This essay's really tough. I'm not sure what my dream is... My... dream... I know!

[Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Outside, night]

[That night, the President's limo arrives. Christina Cooper and another woman step out of the vehicle.]

[Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Living room]

[Chuck, Tails, Nelson, Lindsey, Christina, and the woman are gathered in the living room. Chuck shakes the woman's hand.]
Christina: This is Doctor Kim Bickley. She's a physicist from the National Science Institute.
Kim: Nice to meet you all.

[Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Chris' room, night]

[Chris is writing in the pad.]
Chris: My dream is to help my friend Sonic make the world a better place. If I can just do that, I'll be happy. ...Huh... That sounds way too corny.
[He crumples the paper and tosses it at the garbage can. He misses. Just then he hears a splash in the pool outside. He heads to the window and opens the curtain.]
Chris: What was that?
[He sees a shape in the pool, and immediately runs out of his room, down the hall, down the stairs, and outside.]
Chris: [To himself] Sonic!
[He has a flashback of when he rescued Sonic from the pool.]
Sonic: [Flashback] Yeah, I got a name. My Name is Sonic the Hedgehog!
[He stops, surprised at what he sees. It isn't Sonic in the pool.]
Chris: How are you doin', fella?
[This time, it's an actual cat that fell in the pool. Having climbed out, it meows and shakes the water off of itself. Chris looks worriedly back towards the house.]

[Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Living room]

Nelson: But how can time stop? That's impossible!
Chuck: I'm afraid it is possible.
Kim: Some time in the distant past, our world and Sonic's were one and the same.
[A shot of Sonic's world and Earth splitting is shown.]
Kim: Then a mysterious even divided them in two. Each world suddenly had its own timeline. They now inhabited parallel universes, unaware of the other's existence.
[The shot shows one of the two worlds fading.]
Kim: The two worlds are beginning to join again, and the two separate timeline will soon start to join together as well.
Nelson: But how can you prove this theory is true?
Kim: It's not a theory. Even as we speak, the two timelines are converging. Soon they'll meld completely, and when they do, they'll cancel each other out, and time will stand still. The result will be catastrophic. The rejoined planets will be frozen in time while billions of years will pass in the rest of the universe.
Christina: Once the timelines are fused, the effects will be irreversible.
Lindsey: So we'll be stuck in time?
Chuck: [Arms folded] That's right. When time stops, there's no such thing as the future or the past. None of us will grow older, and we won't be able to change, either.
Nelson: Oh, my. Is there anything we can do?
Kim: I've made some calculations. If they're correct, there's a slim chance we can prevent the timelines from coming together. But we have to act immediately, or it'll be too late.
Christina: The President has just signed an executive order directing all his staff to gather all the Chaos Emeralds together.
Tails: [Surprised] You mean the President wants us to cause Chaos Control?
Chuck: Our only hope to save both worlds is to send you and Sonic and the others back home.
[Nelson and Lindsey look at each other, concerned. Just then a vase shatters. The others turn to see that it was Chris who shattered it. He is not happy.]
Chris: They're not gonna send Sonic back home.
[He approaches them. Lindsey and Nelson stand up.]
Lindsey: Chris!
Nelson: You've been listening?
Chris: Yes, I have. I heard it all. And I don't care what the President says. It's good that Sonic's here.
[A few shots of Chris and Sonic are shown, starting with the first time he saw Sonic since the destruction of the E-99 Eggsterminator.]
Chris: Sonic... Sonic always helps people when they're in trouble.
[A shot of Sonic helping Helen is shown.]
Chris: He saved Station Square when it was attacked by the Chaos Monster.
[A shot of Super Sonic fighting Perfect Chaos is shown.]
Chris: Don't you remember? This whole planet would have been wrecked if Sonic hadn't come to the rescue!
[A shot of Sonic Chaos Controlling Space Colony ARK back into orbit, and Station Square celebrating, is shown.]
Chris: Sonic is staying here! If he goes away, you'll be sorry!
[The others look at him in stunned silence.]
Chuck: Sorry, Chris. We're in danger. It's not Sonic's fault, but he and the others have got to go back. Our whole future depends on it.
[Chris covers his head as angst builds in him.]
Chris: [Yelling] You're wrong!
Lindsey: Are you sure?
Chris: [Desperately] Dr. Eggman must be behind this! He's fooling everybody to get rid of Sonic!
Nelson: Chris may be right. This could be one of Eggman's tricks.
Chuck: We can't wish this problem away, Chris.
[Chris is surprised.]
Chuck: I know it's hard to hear, but the time has come to say goodbye. Sonic must return to his world. There's no other choice.
[Chris grabs his head again.]
Chris: You can't send him away! I won't let you!
[Tails is surprised as Chris dashes from the room.]
Lindsey: Honey!
Nelson: Chris, wait!
[But he has already left. Silence fills the room.]
Tails: I never saw him this upset.
Chuck: I know exactly how he feels.
[Chris is seen running for the front door.]
Chuck: I'm upset about this too.
[He bends down to Tails' level.]
Chuck: If time were to stop, I wouldn't have to grow older anymore. I'd have forever to research and make new discoveries.
[He places his hands on Tails' shoulders.]
Chuck: Why, just think of all the marvelous things you and I could build. We can tinker in our workshop for all eternity.
[He removes his hands.]
Chuck: It sounds wonderful, but it's a trap.
[He walks towards the door.]
Chuck: In a world where time has stopped completely, the pursuit of scientific knowledge would be ultimately meaningless.
[Tails follows him. Chuck stops in front of the broken vase.]
Chuck: We'd never be able to use our knowledge to make real progress.
[He picks up one of the fragments of the vase.]
Chuck: Every day would be the same. I think you'll agree that a world where nothing ever changes would be a boring place to live.
[Tails and Chuck pick up the vase pieces.]
Chuck: I'll miss you, my friend.
[Tails smiles at Chuck.]

[Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Outside]

[Chris is running away from the mansion.]
Chris: [Anguished] This has to be a trick! Eggman has to be doing all this!
[He crashes through the hedge next to the outside gate. Tanaka sees him.]
Tanaka: Chris, no!

[Scene Change: Station Square]

[Decoe and Bocoe are carrying groceries.]
Decoe: We still have to stop by the software store.
[Chris stops in front of them, out of breath.]
Chris: I've been running around looking all over for you two.
Decoe: What can we do for you?
Chris: I need you two to do me a big favor. Please, you have to take me to see Eggman!
[Decoe and Bocoe yell in surprise, startling passerbys. The two robots put their fingers to where their lips would be, before running off with Chris down an alley.]
Decoe: Be careful. Eggman could have spies!
Bocoe: We have to talk privately.
[Later, Chris tells Decoe and Bocoe his story.]
Decoe: Oh, I wish we could help, but it is impossible, Chris. [Shrugs] We have no idea where Eggman went after we left him. There is nothing we can do.
Chris: Oh...
Decoe: Your family must be worried. You should come home with us, Chris.
Chris: No! I'll go look for Eggman alone if I have to!
Bocoe: That could be dangerous. I guess we have to help you.
Chris: If I don't do something, they'll send Sonic away!
[He struggles to hold back his tears.]
Decoe: Eggman will not be giving us a warm welcome.
Bocoe: I agree. We had better prepare for a fight.
Decoe: [To Chris] Stand back, Chris! We have to transform!
[They begin to undergo a transformation.]
Decoe: Decoe!
Bocoe: Bocoe!
Decoe and Bocoe: Transform!
Decoe: Proceed with dome descend!
Bocoe: Leg lift sequence proceeding!
Decoe: Lift up now!
Bocoe: Transformation complate!
[Decoe's head folds in so that the eyes are no longer visible. Bocoe's legs retract inside him, and he fits over Decoe's head. Chris blinks in surprise.]
Decoe and Bocoe: Activate Bokkun Beacon!
[Bocoe's eyes shine a signal into the sky, akin to the Bat-signal, but with Bokkun's silhouette. Moments later, Bokkun flies in laughing. He pauses when he sees Decoe and Bocoe, who have since reverted back to their normal forms.]
Bokkun: Not you guys... What do you two traitors want from me?
Chris: I need your help. I want you to bring me to Eggman so we can talk.
Bokkun: [Folds arms] I wouldn't take you to see my boss for a zillion bucks!
[He makes a face at Chris.]
Bokkun: Nyaa nyaa!
[Bokkun's jetback stops working, and he falls.]
Bokkun: [Teary] I'm so hungry I can't even stay airborne!
Decoe: Did you skip lunch today?
[Bokkun becomes mad at Decoe and Bocoe.]
Bokkun: It's all your fault for ditchin' the doctor! [Upset] His cooking is so repulsive that not even bacteria will eat it!
[The robots hold up their groceries.]
Bocoe: How about a deal? Just bring Chris to see Eggman...
Decoe: ...and we will cook something up.
[Images of the oil cans appear in Bokkun's eyes.]
Bokkun: Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!

[Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Foyer]

[Tanaka closes the door behind him.]
Tanaka: Forgive me for allowing Chris to get away. I could not follow him in the dark [Bows] I no longer deserve to be under your employ!
Nelson: Now, now. It's not your fault. Lindsey and I should have been more understanding with him.
Lindsey: If this were a film, I'd ask for another take. Isn't there anything we can do, Nelson?
Nelson: Yes, I'm going to call the President's office. I'm sure if I'd explain the situation, he'll call in the National Guard to search the area.
[Chris stands by, wordless.]
Chuck: I know exactly where Chris went.
Nelson: Then where is he, Dad? Shouldn't we go after him right away?
Chuck: I'm afraid Chris has gone to confront Dr. Eggman.
[Nelson and Lindsey panic.]
Nelson: Eggman?!
[Tails, who has been sitting quietly on the stairs, is also surprised.]
Chuck: I think we should let him go. That boy's looking for some answers. ... He really believes Eggman's behind all this. Maybe facing Eggman will help him accept the truth.

[Scene Change: Eggman's base]

[Chris, Decoe and Bocoe follow Bokkun to Eggman's base.]
Chris: [To himself] Eggman, I won't let you send Sonic away!
[Soon, the robots enter the base. Eggman turns around in his seat.]
Dr. Eggman: Oh... It's you.
[He turns back around in his seat.]
Dr. Eggman: I knew you come groveling to get your jobs back but it's too late!
[Chris enters while Eggman maps out sketches.]
Chris: Eggman!
Dr. Eggman: So you brought me a prisoner? If you're trying to buy me off, I congratulate you.
[Eggman chuckles. Chris approaches Eggman.]
Chris: They brought me here 'cause I asked 'em to!
Dr. Eggman: Huh?
Chris: [Angrily] You're doing this! You're the one who's making time come to a stop!
Dr. Eggman: [Raises eyebrow] Who, me?
Chris: It's a trick to make them send Sonic to his world! It won't work! I'll make you tell everybody the truth!
[Chris tells his story to a shocked Eggman.]
Dr. Eggman: That plan isn't that bad.
[He stands up and laughs.]
Dr. Eggman: You figured out my scheme, kid. I despise Sonic so much that I decided to bring time to a standstill, then I tricked this world scientific experts into believing that Sonic had be sent back! Now that you caught me, I'll confess.
[Chris seems somewhat relieved.]
Chris: I'm not kidding, Eggman! You better make time go back to normal or else!
Dr. Eggman: Or else you'll throw a temper tantrum? Face it, kid. Without Sonic here to back you up, your threats are as hollow as your head.
Chris: Oh yeah?!
[He charges towards Eggman, but is restrained by Decoe and Bocoe. Chris struggles.]
Decoe: Please Chris! Fighting will not help!
Dr. Eggman: Look kid, I didn't cause this time freeze problem. [Strokes mustache] If your grandfather creates Chaos Control, I'm gonna get sent back too.
[Eggman heads back to his seat.]
Dr. Eggman: I can't build my empire in a world where time is stopped completely! There's no future in it! I have no choice but to go back. [Sits down] That's the truth, kid.
[Eggman's hench-bots let go of Chris.]
Chris: I don't believe you. ...Liar! You're trying to trick me!
[Eggman goes back to his work.]
Dr. Eggman: You're the one who lying... to yourself. You don't want to accept the truth. Deep down, you know once Sonic is gone, your life will have to go back to the way it was before. Your days of adventure are at an end, boy. Just like your friendship with that hyper annoying hedgehog. All your dreams have been shattered, haven't they? [Chuckles] Life is like that, kiddo. Take it from somebody who knows. Whenever you reach too high, life smacks you down.
[He slaps his compass against the palm of his hand. As silence fills the room, Chris feels a combination of anger and sadness.]
Dr. Eggman: But on the bright side, at least you and I won't have to see each other ever again.
[As reality sets in, Chris' hands ball into fists. Tears spring into his eyes, and he runs out of the base.]
Decoe: Wait, Chris!
Dr. Eggman: Let him go.
[The others look at him in surprise.]
Dr. Eggman: So long, kid.
[Meanwhile, Chris runs back through the forest.]
Chris: [Anguished] No! It has to be a lie!
[Chris stops at a cliff where he can overlook Station Square. He looks up at the Egg Moon.]

[Scene Change: Thorndyke Mansion - Living room, night]

[Nelson is pacing the floor.]
Nelson: I just can't stand waiting! I wish we could do something!
Lindsey: Are you sure allowing Chris to see Eggman was a good idea?
Nelson: I'll hire a team of commandos to find him.
Chuck: That's absurd!
[Just then Chris runs in through the door. He looks happier.]
Nelson & Lindsey: Chris!
Chris: Hi, guys.
[Everyone gathers around him. Tails runs in.]
Tails: Hi, Chris!
Chris: Sorry I ran away.
Nelson: We're just happy you're safe, son.
Lindsey: Why Chris, you're freezing!
Ella: What he needs is a nice hot bowl of my chicken soup.
Nelson: Thanks, Ella.
Ella: I'll go get cooking!
[She runs out of the room.]
Nelson: Feel okay, Son? Why don't you sit down.
Chris: [Nods] OK.
[Chris sits on the couch.]
Chuck: [To Tails] Let's go. We still have a lot of work to do.
[They head upstairs.]
Tails: We still have to find two more Chaos Emeralds.
Chuck: The government's searching too, but even if they're found, we may not be able to build a machine to initiate Chaos Control.
Tails: I bet we can figure something out, Chuck.
Chuck: It looks like you'll have to stay here a little longer, though.
[Chris enters his room. Nelson and Lindsey are in the doorway.]
Nelson: You can sleep in tomorrow if you want.
Chris: OK, thanks.
Nelson: Night, Son.
Chris: Good night.
[He shuts the door, and Chris puts his ear to the door. He runs to the window and looks up at the sky.]
Chris: Sonic...

[Scene Change: A mountain range]

[Sonic is running through the mountains. He stops when he thinks he hears someone calling him.]
Sonic: Huh? Chris?
[But there is nothing.]
Sonic: Guess I imagined it.
[Then he sees a red glow coming from one of the rocks. The episode ends and the credits roll.]
