You're doing a fine job, I just suspected you were too trigger (pun intended) happy and jumped the gun too quickly at slightest provocation. The word 'ass' doesnt seem to be a curse word, considering it has more than two synonyms which mean the same thing, has multiple uses other than to insult but are not considered offensive: 'butt, buttock, bum, glutus maximus', if I traveled back in time and replaced tha word with the other four synonyms under the exact same context and I was not warned for vulgar language, then that would be enough justification for the word not being in the 'vulgar' category.
I am also aware that there are more moderators and admins on the site, a particular issue of which is amny of them come from different nations, with some of them speaking English as a second language. So I wont be surprised if all of you get into conflict over one commonly accepted word in one language but considered vulgar in another. For example, the word 'mate' in UK, Australian and New Zealand is commonly accepted meaning referred to a male friend, whilst this word is less used in place of others more common in say, the United States, the meaning of 'mate' would more commonly, if not accidentally, referred to as a sexual partner rather than just 'a friend' and may be considered sensitive for a site like this, if the majority of admins were American ignorant of other types of English. Your user page doesnt specify what country you come from, and admins like U9000 who says he comes from Denmark might not know or care about small differences like these.
I am not saying that this policy should be outright removed, but suggesting that it should be less arbitrary and more specific.
Nah, I just wanted to give you a heads up on how we handled language here, since I didn't want to see anyone in the future focus on just a word or two in whatever you say on any topic rather than the meat of your responses in case you ever said any words or what not that could be easily seen as swears to a number of people. I know full well that sort of response can get annoying very quickly.
Yeah, I'm aware that our Admin team is pretty diverse in regards to the various areas around the world in which we come from. I remember we had at least one Admin back in the past who was from Australia, for example. I suppose these cultural differences between the various English-speaking countries and the various nuances between the versions of the English language we all use should be kept in mind if any discussion is to be had over potentially revising the language policy. To be honest, since you've now got me thinking about the policy at length, I'm thinking of possibly starting a forum myself about possibly revising it in the very near future. The only reason I'm not going to right now is because it is very late where I live and I need to go to bed soon. That, and I need to make sure I'll have time to come on tomorrow and make the forum. I'm not sure how busy I'm going to be later today. Of course, if you want a forum on this topic made ASAP, you're always free to make it yourself if you wish, but regardless of whether or not I'm the one to ultimately make the forum I think that a discussion on revising the language policy should be had.
At any rate, I think we've strayed off course from the main discussion for long enough. We should return to it ASAP.
