To make it to the Egg fortress, Sonic has to travel underwater. However, the water has a lot of traps as well! It's difficult to breath in this undersea ground.

— Description, Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble[1]

Tidal Plant Zone (タイダルプラント・ゾーン[1] Taidaru Puranto Zōn?) is the fifth and penultimate Zone of Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble. As with other Zones in this game, Tidal Plant consists of two standard Acts followed by a shorter, third Act which contains the Zone's boss.

Overview[]

Tidal Plant Zone is an undersea ground filled with traps.[1]

Story[]

Sonic and Tails are washed into the Tidal Plant Zone following Knuckles' trap from Robotnik Winter Zone, and they continue their pursuit of Dr. Robotnik.

As they run through Tidal Plant Zone, Sonic and Tails come across Knuckles, who instead of sending Sonic and Tails to another Zone, fights them with his submarine, although the duo defeat it, leaving Knuckles to drown away.

Sonic and Tails then leave the area, leaving Knuckles (offscreen) to be captured by Dr. Robotnik.

Gameplay[]

The Winding, submarine passages in Tidal Plant Zone bristle with traps and Eeliottes. Pressing the large, pink buttons along the floor releases air bubbles which Sonic and Tails can ride inside.

There are rather unique power-ups in Tidal Plant Zone. Just as Robotnik Winter Zone gave Sonic the opportunity to snowboard with the Jet Board, Sonic can here pick up Screw Shoes, which enable Sonic to swim, albeit briefly. Meanwhile, Tails gets to pilot the Sea Fox submarine.

Boss[]

STTTidalPlantBoss

Knuckles the Echidna, from Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble.

Sonic and Knuckles clash once again beneath the waves in Tidal Plant, with Knuckles utilizing a bomb-throwing, torpedo-launching submarine-like contraption.

The battle is fought entirely underwater, and Sonic has to grab air bubbles during the brief interludes in combat; without them, he won't be able to hold out for the sixteen hits the red echidna's submarine can take. Tails battles Knuckles with his Sea Fox, which not only gives him an indefinite supply of oxygen, but also long-ranged torpedoes, allowing him to simultaneously avoid Knuckles' projectiles more easily and attack him from a safer distance.

For a boss machine, the contraption is quite durable, taking up to sixteen hits, after which it will explode.

Chaos Emerald locations[]

The Chaos Emerald monitors in Tidal Plant Zone can be found in the following locations

  • Act 1: Step on the first Switch that appears after passing the Marker and ride the air bubble as far to the right as the playable character can. This will lead to a room with a collapsing floor. The player must then drop down and sink into the floor below. The player will then arrive in a hidden room with the Chaos Emerald monitor.
  • Act 2: Near the Act's end, the player will reach an air bubble with High-speed warp tubes above and to the left. Take the upper tube, defeat the enemy inside, hop over the breakable floor to the air bubble to the left, and swim up to find the Chaos Emerald monitor surrounded by breakable blocks.
