The Unleashed Mode (アンリーシュトモード Anrīshutomōdo?) is a move used by Sonic the Werehog in Sonic Unleashed. When performing this move, Sonic the Werehog enters an empowered state that increases all of his physical talents.

Description

When using Unleashed Mode, Sonic the Werehog taps into the energies of Dark Gaia that he has absorbed. When activating the mode, Sonic howls and his entire body becomes surrounded in a light blue energy aura. While active, the majority of Sonic's physical attributes are increased, giving him greater strength, speed and durability for a limited time. Once the energy runs out, the Unleashed Mode will end.

To use Unleashed Mode in gameplay, the player's Unleashed Gauge must be filled up to a certain point (in the PlayStation 2/Wii version it can be activated at any time, while in the PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 it must be at a certain point). To activate Unleashed Mode, the player has to press the following buttons:

PS2 Wii (remote) Wii (Classic Controller) Wii (GameCube Controller) PS3 Xbox 360
Playstation-Button-L1 + Playstation-Button-R2 C Button WiiU-Button-ZL + WiiU-Button-ZR Gamecube Y Button R1ps3 Xbox-Button-RB

When Unleashed Mode is active in gameplay, the player can move and attack faster and the damage the player can deal doubles. In the PlayStation 2/Wii version, Unleashed Mode halves the damage the player receives as well, while in the PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 version it makes the player temporarily invincible to attacks. The Unleashed Gauge will deplete with time while Unleashed Mode is active and when it runs out, Sonic returns to his normal state.

Trivia

  • In the E3 demo of Sonic Unleashed, the energy trails of Sonic the Werehog's attack auras were blue and he had no Unleashed Mode. In the final version of the game, the Unleashed Mode was given the color of the energy trails while the energy trails were changed to purple.
