Nintendo has announced that by May 20, 2014, Nintendo WiFi Connection will shut down permantently at all areas. This means the Online game play, leaderboards, the sharing of user-content, and exchange of in-game characters and items along with Matchmaking Will be unavailalbe once this service update comes in.
NOTE: This only includes Sonic Games that were released in the Wii and DS that included Nintendo WiFi Connection. This also includes Spin-Offs and Crossovers.

- Super Smash Bros Brawl
- Sonic Rush Adventure

In the mean while, the Wii Shop Channel (Where you can get Sonic 4: Episode 1) along with the DSi Shop plus all of the Video-On-Demand services plus Netflix will not be affected once WiFi Connection is shut down. The Nintendo Network, which is used for the 3DS/2DS and the Wii U will remain operational as well, so don't worry if you still have any games on the 3DS/2DS and the Wii U. For the games on Nintendo's 7th Gen Consoles (Wii, DS/DSi), you can play any of those games offline but it's still a good time to spend your last days, hours, and seconds online with the games you play on the Wii, the DS and the DSi before it's gone forever...
