The Veg-O-Fortress,[1] also known as the Volcano Veg-O Fortress[2] or just the Veg-O Fortress,[2] is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was a giant Badnik-producing fortress built by Dr. Robotnik for his evil scheme of conquering Planet Mobius. However, the fortress was eventually destroyed by Sonic the Hedgehog, and it sunk into the sea.

Description[]

Appearance and architecture[]

The Veg-O-Fortress takes the appearance of a large, gray tower that covers most, if not all, of Mount Mobius. The tower itself features a checker pattern. There are also several tubes, pipes and machines that connect to the sea nearby, polluting it. The top part of the fortress features Dr. Robotnik's face on it.

Features and abilities[]

The Veg-O-Fortress features artillery cannons that shoot laser blasts at any intruder approaching from the sky. Inside of it, the fortress is also guarded by several Badniks, as well as a complex security system called the "Pinball Defense System".[3] The Veg-O-Fortress also features the Veg-O Machine, which robotizes Animals into Badniks. A multitude of Chaos Emeralds are also in place to keep Mount Mobius's volcano from exploding and blowing the Veg-O-Fortress to pieces.[3]

History[]

Sonic Spinball[]

In the 16-bit version of Sonic Spinball, Dr. Robotnik built the Veg-O-Fortress on Mount Mobius, which he planned to use to robotize all beings on Planet Mobius with.[1] Using the lava pumping through the mountain, Robotnik was able to harness the volcanic energies to power the Veg-O-Fortress's generators, although he had to use Chaos Emeralds to keep the mountain's volcano stable or it would explode.[3][4]

Eventually, Sonic and Tails used a a plane to approach Mount Mobius, only for the Veg-O-Fortress's artillery cannons to start firing at them. This made Sonic fall onto the sea near Mount Mobius. However, he managed to make his way into the Toxic Caves, the lowest point of the Veg-O-Fortress. From there, Sonic ascended through the Veg-O-Fortress on the inside, collecting Chaos Emeralds alogng the way to estabilize Mount Mobius's volcano. Eventually, he also destroyed the Veg-O Machine, which caused the entire fortress to crumble. In an attempt to escape, Robotnik tried to use a rocket ship, but Sonic managed to destroy it in mid-flight. As Sonic and Robotnik then fell from the sky, Sonic was rescued by Tails in his plane, while Dr. Robotnik fell into the remains of the Veg-O-Fortress as Mount Mobius sunk into the sea.
