Figure out the Veg-O-Machine's secret to free the hostages! The destruction of the Fortress begins!

— Description, Sonic Spinball[1]

The Veg-O Machine, also spelled as the Veg-O-Machine,[1] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was a machine created by Dr. Robotnik during the Veg-O-Fortress incident.

Description[]

Appearance[]

The Veg-O Machine is a large, purple-colored machine with a blue glass dome in the center and a visible dome on top of it. It is connected to the surrounding walls by two glass pipes on the upper corners. It also has a hatch below it.

In Sonic Spinball (8-bit), the Veg-O Machine looks mostly the same, except that it is a bit taller.

Features and abilities[]

The Veg-O Machine is capable of robotizing Animals that are sent into it and then release them in the form of Badniks. As seen so far, it has been able to turn Animals into Cluckbirds, Krondors, and Busters.

History[]

Sonic Spinball[]

In the 16-bit version and 8-bit version of Sonic Spinball, Dr. Robotnik created the Veg-O Machine when he built the Veg-O-Fortress in order to turn the Animals that inhabited Planet Mobius into Badniks.

Eventually, when the Veg-O-Fortress started to crumble, Sonic the Hedgehog found the Veg-O Machine and destroyed it.

Battle[]

The Veg-O Machine is the boss of The Machine in the 16-bit version and 8-bit version of Sonic Spinball, and the third boss overall in both games. It is battled with Sonic the Hedgehog.

Boss guide[]

The player will enter the Veg-O Machine's boss room through two high-speed warp tubes. During the battle with the Veg-O Machine, the machine will release Cluckbirds, Krondors and Busters from the bottom of its hatch that will fly around in a linear pattern below the Veg-O Machine. When the player attempts to pass up along the sides of the Veg-O Machine, the Badniks released by the Veg-O Machine can block Sonic's way.

To defeat the Veg-O Machine, the player first has to destroy the pipes connected to it. To do this, the player has to launch Sonic into the spaces between the sides of the Veg-O Machine and the walls so Sonic can spin into the pipes at the top. Additionally, inside these spaces are electric fences sticking out from the walls that the player can bounce back from and into the pipes immediately after hitting them. After hitting a pipe ten times, it will break off and free the Animals. Once both pipes are destroyed, the Veg-O Machine will stop producing more Badniks. After that, the player has to launch Sonic into the bottom hatch of the Veg-O Machine, from where he will enter the Veg-O Machine and make it overheat by bouncing around inside it.

At the bottom of the boss room with the Veg-O Machine, below the flippers, there are three transport tubes. The one of the left sends Sonic back to the Animal prison, the one in the center launches Sonic back to the boss room, and the third sends Sonic back to the right section of The Machine. Should the player activate the two targets on the side ceilings, an electric current gets activated. Should Sonic then fall into this electrical current, it will send him into the center transport tube and back to the boss room.

After a number of hits inside the Veg-O Machine, the Veg-O Machine is destroyed and the player will have cleared the level.

Trivia[]

  • In Sonic Spinball (8-bit), each part of the boss rewards the player with a certain amount of points; hitting collision parts gives 5,000 points, each destroyed side tube gives 10,000 points and after clearing the whole boss the player receives 3,000,000 points.[2]
