Knuckles using Volcanic Dunk at Level 3.
|Statistics and Overview|
A volcanic explosion-causing punch to the ground.
Volcanic Dunk (ボルカニックダンク Borukanikkudanku?) is one of the Power Formation manoeuvres and the Wide Power Attack used by Team Sonic in Sonic Heroes. When using this technique, Knuckles the Echidna delivers a tremor-causing punch to the ground with variating effects depending on Knuckles' level.
When performing Volcanic Dunk, Knuckles jumps slightly into the air, while releasing his teammates from his grip (due to having used them for the move's initial attacks), and then punches into the ground with one fist with such force that it creates a miniature earthquake that damages anything caught within its radius.
To perform this technique in gameplay, the player must have Team Sonic in Power Formation, with Knuckles as the leader and must have performed the Spinning Back punch. Right after using the Spinning Back punch, the player then has to press // to use the Volcanic Dunk.
During the battle with Metal Overlord, with his powers amplified by the Super Shield, when Knuckles is performing the Volcanic Dunk, he will begin punching continuously into the air while releasing a fury of powerful fireballs that cause explosions upon contact with the enemy. As long as the action button is repeatedly pressed, the player can perform this attack for as long as desired.
By collecting red Power Cores during gameplay, the player can increase the power, nature and radius of the Volcanic Dunk. The levels of power are as follows:
- Level 1: Knuckles punches the ground and creates a slight tremor, releasing a flaming shockwave.
- Level 2: Knuckles punches the ground, which forms a bigger flaming shockwave and creates a bigger tremor. Radius is increased to about a couple of meters away from the center and damage dealt is about double.
- Level 3: Knuckles punches the ground, creating miniature volcanic explosions for a few seconds which makes fire balls come spewing out of the ground. It is also capable of defeating enemies above the explosion that touch them. Attack radius and damage is at maximum.
