Vyse is the protagonist of Skies of Arcadia. The son of Dyne, Vyse is the captain of the Blue Rouges, a small group of noble pirates. One day, he and his friend, Aika, stumble upon a mysterious girl named Fina, who is being pursued by the Valuan Empire, an authoritarian superpower. While Vyse and Aika are away, the Valuan Empire ransacks the home of the pirates, taking the men of the isle and Fina. Thus begins Vyse's campaign against the Valuan Empire's brutal dictatorship.

Appearance[]

Vyse is a rather short teenager. He has short, wavy brown hair, large brown eyes, and a scar on on the left side of his face. He wears a double-breasted blue peacoat, the sleeves of which are connected to the torso of the coat and fastened to his arm by a series of red-colored belts. The coat has six gold buttons, with three on each side, with a large, leather belt with a silver buckle across his waist. Underneath his jacket is a black sleeveless t-shirt. Vyse also wears black leggings, two-tone brown tall leather boots, with a belt horizontally across the vamp and vertically across the instep, with a silver buckle holding both in place. In terms of accessories, Vyse wears a bright red scarf around his popped collar, and tied in a knot in front of his neck, and a sky-blue eyepatch goggle lens over his right eye which he can use in order to see long distances.

Game appearances[]

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed[]

In Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Vyse commandeers an old-fashioned steampunk race car similar in design to his ship, The Delphinus. He can be unlocked once the player collects 30 stars in World Tour.

When Vyse's All-Star Move is activated, a blue, transparent pirate ship appears around his vehicle, with six cannons, three on each side, and can fire cannonballs at the other racers. The track "Sudden Storm" from Skies of Arcadia plays.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate[]

Vyse

Vyse, as seen in the Archie Comics.

In Sonic Universe #45, Vyse appears with other characters from the Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed roster in a stand-alone tie-in event. He first appeared discussing his world with Miles "Tails" Prower, who seemed to be very enthusiastic about the world of Arcadia. He also got a rather negative first impression of Dr. Eggman, who, among other things, threatened to destroy the Blue Rogues if he won the upcoming race. However, Vyse, along with the other racers, worked together to stop Eggman's evil scheme.

During the events of Worlds Unite, Vyse and his world made an appearance. When Sigma sent several Mavericks to different worlds, Tidal Makkoeen attempted to set up an Unity Engine on Crescent Isle, but the Blue Rogues defended the area from him, being finished off by one of Vyse's super moves, Cutlass Fury. After the battle, Knuckles the Echidna and Quake Woman appeared and convinced the Blue Rogues to join the battle against Sigma, with the Unified Army using the Delphinus as a temporary base after the Sky Patrol's destruction.

During the final battle against Sigma-2 and his many Mavericks and robot duplicates, Vyse, at the behest of Sonic the Hedgehog actually initiated the fight, firing the Moon Stone Cannon of the Delphinus directly against Sigma-2, prompting the Unified Army to charge against the enemy. Vyse assisted his fellow swordfighters, including Antoine D'Coolette. When Sigma-3 was revealed as a more powerful iteration of the megalomaniacal Reploid, Vyse was one of the first to rush in to attack him alongside Ryu, with the assistive magic of Nina, Momo, Aika, and Fina. In spite of these mystical buffs, however, their swords broke against Sigma-3's own protective shield, and Vyse was unceremoniously swatted to the ground.

After Sigma's defeat, Vyse volunteered to stay behind and attempt to use the Delphinus to evacuate the remaining citizens of Sonic and Mega Man's collapsing worlds as opposed to returning to his own. However, the Genesis Portals began to close, and the Unified Army appeared to be stranded in a doomed dimension. However, with Xander Payne's usage of the Master Engine to reset the timeline, Vyse and the other Blue Rogues returned to their home, as did everyone else.

Personality[]

Vyse is a spirited, determined, and high-energy individual, who is confident, upbeat, and compassionate. A master of inspiration, Vyse is known to ignite a similar sense of passion in others with heartfelt speeches. With boundless charisma, charm, and drive, Vyse never gives up and always looks out for his friends, family, and the downtrodden. These magnetic traits alongside his unyielding sense of justice are what allow him to assemble his personal crew in Skies of Arcadia.

Trivia[]

  • The Sonic the Hedgehog series is not the only Sega franchise in which Vyse crosses over into. Vyse appears in the Valkyria Chronicles series, and curiously enough, is voiced by Roger Craig Smith, the voice of Sonic, in the English versions of the games.
  • Vyse was considered to be in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, but it never got anywhere.[1]
  • Vyse is the only playable Skies of Arcadia character in the Sega All-Stars series.
