In the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, Waluigi belongs to the Tricksters class and can only take part in sports events selected for this class. In the game's story mode, before the Olympics, Waluigi met Orbot and Cubot, who asked him to challenge Metal Sonic, in London. Declining the request, Waluigi tried to run away, until Dr. Eggman came and offered to help him claim the title of superstar from Luigi if he could beat Metal Sonic. Not the one to turn down this offer, Waluigi accepted the deal. However, he ended up losing to Metal Sonic. With the deal call off, Waluigi left to train more and claim the title of superstars on his own. Soon after, a strange fog began covering London. Meanwhile, in London Tennis Club, Waluigi was testing out some binoculars (dubbed the "Waluigiscopes") that he planned to use to spy on Luigi and spot his weaknesses and then claim the title of superstar. After scarring off some Shy Guys though, Waluigi dropped his Waluigiscopes when Metal Sonic came and walked into him. With his Waluigiscopes broken, a vengeful Waluigi challenged Metal Sonic to some events. After beating Metal Sonic, Waluigi chased after the robot when he tried to escape, only to lose him in the fog at Eton Dorney. Running into Wario along the way, who was after Eggman, the two of them decided to team up and help each other catch their target when each of them offered the other a reward for their aid. They were then approached by Eggman and Metal Sonic, whom they challenged to some events. After Waluigi and Wario beat the two villains, the two of them called off their deals. Wario then found the local Fog Machine and destroyed it, thus clearing Eton Dorney of the fog. Nearby, Mario, Luigi, Toad and Charmy congratulated the pair. Waluigi and Wario were then left to watch Eggman and Metal Sonic, whom they planned to get compensation from. However, Waluigi and Wario soon discovered that the Eggman they were watching was really a hologram when it faded away. Not long after, the fog returned, except now more intense, to London. In response, Waluigi and Wario cleared Eton Dorney of the fog, which pair later reported back to Sonic and Mario about to support them during their showdown with Eggman and Bowser (and so they could get Eggman to pay up), who were behind the fog. After everything had been resolved, Waluigi came to the opening ceremony for the Olympic Games.

In the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, a badge of Waluigi can also be obtained from the badge machine.

Waluigi and Wario meeting Tails and Luigi, from Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

In the Nintendo Switch version of the game, Waluigi plays a role in the story mode. In this mode, he and Wario were preparing to win the gold in the Canoeing event when Tails and Luigi showed to compete for the gold in that event. Despite taunting the duo by saying that they were not better than themselves, Waluigi and Wario lost to Tails and Luigi in the event. As Waluigi and Wario began blaming each other for their loss, Luigi intervened and insisted that they needed gold medals. Upon hearing this, Waluigi devised a scheme to pretend to help them get gold medals and then steal them later, to which Wario agreed on. Waluigi thus joined Tails and Luigi's party with Wario. When the party later needed to get the Excitement Battery back from Ludwig by beating Ludwig in a competition, Waluigi accepted the challenge so he could both get a gold medal while getting the Excitement Battery. In the end, Waluigi beat Ludwig in the Fencing event, which ultimately led to the Excitement Battery being returned to the heroes with a little more charge.

In the Nintendo Switch version of the game, Waluigi is only playable in the 2020 events and has the following characteristics:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

Sonic-and-waluigi

Waluigi appearing as an Assist Trophy for Sonic the Hedgehog in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Waluigi appears as an Assist Trophy. When Waluigi is summoned, he dashes up to a random fighter on the stage and stomp them into the ground. However, if other characters are caught in the wake of his stomps, then he can stomp multiple opponents at once. Nevertheless, Waluigi will stomp his victim(s) multiple times before landing a final attack with either his tennis racket or a kick. His kicks in particular can meteor smash an opponent if they are a little outside the stage. Also, unless he attacks constantly, his final attack will exhibit a pause which lasts for about three seconds. In gameplay, Waluigi is somewhat easy to avoid since he can be dodged by simply jumping over him, and luring him off-stage is not a difficult feat. However, he can be quite lethal to a careless player. In addition, Luigi possesses a palette swap in the game that makes his clothes resemble Waluigi's.

Waluigi also appears in the game as a Trophy and a few Stickers:

In addition, Luigi and Mario each possess a palette swap in the game that makes their clothes look more like Waluigi's. There is also an unlockable Waluigi hat for all Mii Fighter types.
