The Warp of Confusion[1] is a location that appears in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series. It is an alternate dimension connected to Mobius.
Description[]
The Warp of Confusion is an unusual dimension that differs significantly from Mobius. The entrance to this dimension is through a Dimensional Tunnel connected to a trash can on Mobius. The entrance to the Warp of Confusion from the Dimension Tunnel is somewhat reminiscent of a human esophagus, except that on the other side there is a destructible toothed mouth that chops down on anyone who tries to enter.
The insides of the Warp of Confusion is a changing, abstract space. The environment in the dimension, which are a composition of different structures and masses of terrain, are similarly surreal. The Warp of Confusion's only known inhabitants are mainly fish that swim freely across all available space.
History[]
TV series[]
Past[]
Five years before the present events, Dr. Ivo Robotnik exiled his crazy cousin, Dr. Warpnik, to the Warp of Confusion. Over time, Warpnik built a machine in the Warp of Confusion that could change both living and inanimate objects into giant monsters.[1]
Season one[]
In the present day, Dr. Warpnik watched Sonic and Tails from the Warp of Confusion, planning to lure Dr. Robotnik into the Warp of Confusion and get his revenge on him. To this end, he caught Tails, thus forcing Sonic to enter Warp of Confusion. This prompted Robotnik, along with his minions Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts, to follow Sonic into the Warp of Confusion. When Warpnik and Robotnik met, a fight ensued between them, which was briefly interrupted as they both did not want Sonic and Tails to escape them. In response, Warpnik prepped his weapon that could turn anything into monsters and began shoot everywhere with it, turning everything in the Warp of Confusion into monsters. The doctors, however, began fighting over who got to control the weapon. As the weapon overloaded, it ended up zapping Robotnik's minions, turning them into giant monsters and making them turn against Robotnik. As they tried to attack Robotnik however, they accidently destroyed Warpnik's control board, thereby triggering a chain reaction that made the Warp of Confusion go supernova. Sonic and Tails, however, managed to get out of the Warp of Confusion through the Dimensional Tunnel connecting it to Mobius, bowling through both doctors and the remains of Warpnik's weapon in the process. Shortly thereafter, the Dimensional Tunnel exploded, leaving Robotnik and his minions trapped (for now) in the damaged Warp of Confusion. There, Robotnik and Warpnik would continue fighting each other with fish while Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts watched them.[1]
Trivia[]
- The Warp of Confusion is based on the Special Stages from the early games of the Sonic the Hedgehog series (the fish that float in the background are specifically taken from the Special Stages of the original Sonic the Hedgehog).
- These Special Stages were in fact referred to as the "Warps of Confusion" in early English-language background material, including Sega of America's internal Sonic Bible, the Sonic the Hedgehog promotional comic and the Sonic Interview from the 1993 edition of The Official Sonic the Hedgehog Yearbook.
