Water Palace (ウォーターパレス U~ōtāparesu?) is the second and fourth Zone for Sonic the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat, respectively, that appears in Sonic Rush. During the events of Sonic Rush, Sonic goes to Water Palace to search for Blaze and to stop Dr. Eggman, while Blaze goes to Water Palace to find another one of her missing Sol Emeralds.
Overview
Water Palace takes place at an ancient village nearby the ocean. It contains ruins that have been covered with the water from the ocean. Several water springs are located there, as well. The player, who can control either Sonic the Hedgehog or Blaze the Cat, can run on water, go through inside the water-area, and through shuttle loops that lead to corkscrewed-slides that push the player to run on water. Performing Trick Actions also helps the player earn more energy for the Tension Gauge in order for the player's Sonic Boost to last longer. Water pumps that release gallons of water can shoot the player to high distances, and enemies such as the Knight Pawns and Sea Pawns can get in the way for the player if not careful. This is the only Zone in Sonic Rush that has an underwater section in the acts of a Zone.
Gameplay
Water Palace has only two acts per story mode, and both story mode acts are identical, with the with the exclusion of Sonic having the Special Generators in the acts of his story mode, in which the said generations can whisk Sonic to the Special Stage if Sonic uses enough Sonic Boost energy to get through. There are no differences within the levels, other than the music, which is the song "Back 2 Back", being different depending on the character that player has chosen.
In the gameplay of this stage, the blue Chaos Emerald can be found by Sonic if the player controls Sonic and then sends him to the Special Stage via the Special Generators. However, the blue Sol Emerald can be found by Blaze the Cat, but the emerald can be seen after defeating Egg Turtle.
Boss
The boss is the Egg Turtle, which is controlled by Dr. Eggman in Blaze's story and Dr. Eggman Nega in Sonic's story. The boss fight is like the Ghost Kraken from the game's sequel, Sonic Rush Adventure, in that they're both fought in a circle and in and out of the water. The boss chases the player around while trying to body slam them, or slam them with its head. The blue Chaos Emerald and green Sol Emerald are found here.
Trivia
- Water Palace returns in the 3DS version of Sonic Generations.
- The zone resembles Windmill Isle from Sonic Unleashed and Blue Coast Zone from Sonic Rivals 2 in that they all have a coastal, Greek theme with white buildings.
- It could be also that Water Palace is somewhere in the Apotos region, due to this stage and Windmill Isle have Greek-based settings.
